On a month-long trip to the Broughtons we took the full set of the Foyle's War series from PBS. Grandkids loved the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. The Commodore voted for An Affair to Remember in the three hankie tear-jerker category.
Fair winds.

A little tough to come by, the entire series of Sea Hunt with Lloyd Bridges.

I need to become a commodore in the Coast Guard Auxiliary!

Sand Pebbles X 2.

Almost Forgot: Longitude
3.3 hour British mini-series telling about Mr. Harrison's 18th century clocks and a 20th century British naval officer's obsessive restoration of the original H-1.
Worth the price if only to see the incredible device in motion.

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit the Coast Guard Auxiliary."

I didn't know about a mini series, but the book is something that every mariner with an interest in history should read.

When I am back home, I will look for it on Netflix and Amazon.

Seriously, the book is outstanding. Not fiction, but extremely well written history. Well worth reading.

How about the Victory at sea series and movie?

The music was awesome.

Later,
Dan

Agreed. I have the orchestral score on cd (and 33.3 vinyl too!). The series is streamable, but I don't know if it's for sale. Gonna check around.

Got two different CDs for the Victory at Sea music. Love them! ... Immensely enjoyed the TV series decades ago as a child.

The 1975 Peckinpah movie The Killer Elite has scenes near/at its conclusion picturing a two-masted sailboat in San Francisco and Suisun bays, featuring the mothball fleet in its 1970s glory (less than ten ships currently:eek:). The thing that bugged me, however, was the closing scene with the boat going east under the Benicia Bridge into Suisun Bay when in the previous scenes the boat was in Suisun Bay where the fleet is located. :banghead:

"Islands in the Stream" w/ G. C. Scott

To Wifey B: there are many x-rated parodies of boat related films, some that come to mind are "Not The Love Boat," and "Sex Boat." I led a tarnished life...

On another matter, one of my fav sailing films is "Wind."

My collection of MP4's include most all mentioned so far but here are a few others I think might fit the bill...

Billy Budd, 1962 - a seldom mentioned nautical classic in the vein of Mutiny on the Bounty.

Secret of Roan Inish, 1994

Ring of Bright Water, 1969

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, 1947

Wifey B: I have no time for movies. There are four basketball games today and four tomorrow. :D

We have all forgotten one of the all-time best: Alec Guiness in The Captain's Paradise!

Adventures in Paradise.

I think watching this series as a kid first triggered my love of cruising and the sea.
