This is why I’m thankful you posted that picture and am so interested...
I’m positive he used a Shark as a base for his modifications.
As you can see, I have an old, stripped down shark laying beside my shop.
Figured I’d either make a kids play house out of it, cut it up to the dump or some day get inspired to a project boat.
Well...
That picture inspired me!
I love how he cut the hull and raised the forward cabin-deck up.
Too simple and easy!
Mine won’t look like his but the inspiration is there!

Doan know Frank. I see a steeper stem, less rake in your boat. A bit more freeboard and also a bit more bilge cheek. You’rs may even have a bit of tumblehome amidships. The more I look the less I see it though. The fwd end of the cabin gives it away. How could it be anything else. I’d say you’re right. The boat has cheeks aft at least so she may be full at both ends. Important for a conversion I think.
I think she may make a good one Frank. You can do better w the cabin though. It’s functional but rather ugly IMO. You would do well to study the forecabin of the W30 for inspiration me-thinks. Wonder what the lower hull looks like?

Oh I see you have an Albin 25. What power? Miss my Albin.

Gotta like red too .. easy to do.
Many marimeized engines are painted red. I got industrial flat black.

It was a late-cold spring here in NE Ontario. No heat in the shop and with arthritis, I don’t do well with “damp-cold”..
Lots of typical spring projects but finally getting a few hours in now and then on the lil boat.

Busy with other projects but getting a bit of time again.
Put a layer of cloth epoxied to the cabin top.
Cut and glassed bow boards. Will be painted hull colour.
Put used wheel balancing weights in and concreted over for ballast
Multiple minor glass repairs
Getting closer to paint.
Will do interior first, then exterior.

The original boat had 2 lead bars on either side of the keel in that place so simply followed that placement, but you are correct in that I can ad more as needed to be “on her lines” once afloat. The lead would have been too high to re use.

I remember when used lead wheel weights were free.
Now, not so much free. I also remember penny candy, 5cent candy bars and a nickel pack of gum. Oh I forgot to mention, 5cent phone calls.
Couple years ago, I needed some lead sheeting. Cost me more to ship it that the cost of the lead.
There was one place out west that melted and formed lead into shapes.
Due to environmental regulations, I was told, they were planning to go out of business.
Seems the environmentalist have struck again.
When I needed additional ballast for my N46, I used bags and bags and bags and bags of lead shot for shotgun shells.

Yes...I’m within about 5lbs
The centreboard was about another 100lbs but I’ll wait until afloat to see how she sits on her lines and adjust accordingly.

Dan...I can remember mom sending me for 17 cent bread and getting half a small paper bag of gummies etc with the 3 cents left over from the 2 dimes I handed over.
The used wheel weights were free... friends garage

Moving along as I get time...
lots of little things:
Cockpit drain in
Sink drain in
Drop board window cut in
Porta pottie fiddles in
All windows removed
Final glass work in various repair spots
Filling and sanding the really bad areas
Make small, easy mounted table
Make outboard support
Prep to pain...
First coat white applied


As spots now show more, filling and sanding for touch ups in/out next week.
Windows then back in
Head door installed
Upper cabinet back in
Paint hull
Paint fascia
Cushions later on...

Amazing project. My Mom bought a new Mariner 2plus2 back in the early 70s. I really loved sailing that boat. Powering with a British Seagull-- that was not as much fun.

Butane stove on counter coming
Super insulated cooler below
Outdoor carpet in

LOTS left to do and paint sure shows where more filling and sanding needed!

Getting a bit excited as it’s finally taking shape
I’m amazed how much 19ft will give you!
Still a 4ft cockpit out back!

It’s coming off a sailboat of mine and already has remote shift/throttle.... bonus.
Now, as I want an inside helm, the trick will ge to rig steering.
Has anyone had any experience doing this with a portable sized outboard?

Do some searching on the web. I have seen those rigged with generic cable operated steering and Morse controls. I think the connections are from a 25hp model similar to yours. I used to be a member on tinbots.net and those guys do a lot of center console conversions using modified tiller OBs.

Got a bit motivated today...
Painted the burgundy top fascia
Then did first coat on the hull.... rolled n tipped
Finally get to see what the “end look” will be..
it’s been a very long road to here with lots more to do, but nice to finally see the idea come to life..


Still wondering about remote steering on my 9.9?
As I noted, it already is remote shift n throttle
I am not going to use cables...
Will use the typical newer rod..
It’s the attachment to the OB I’m wondering if anyone has done?

Most of the smaller outboards were setup to take the single cable helm wheel steering or the hydraulic outboard steering. My 1986 Mercury 6 HP will anyway. Don't know if you have the service manual for your outboard or can find it on line, but they're usually pretty good at showing repairs to OEM accessories and accessory installations like the electric start kit or remote shift and throttle. I'm sure there is a remote steering provision for that outboard, although it may require an accessory kit.
