    Surprised at the fuel dock

To narrow things downs: - Is it freshwater or seawater? - If freshwater, you may be able to test if it's tap water or rain water: https://www.simplexhealth.co.uk/identify-source-of-a-water-leak-in-your-property-cms-52.html

Cutlass Bearing - how tight a fit -new

I understand that what split was the rubber bearing by itself, not the bushing or "housing" it sits in. Splitting the bushing would take some beating and gluing it to the hull be a really bad idea.

    Butt kicked by stuffing box

You might be able to borrow or rent a VERY large pipe wrench to crack the flange by twisting it by whatever amount the studs clearance allows.

    Butt kicked by stuffing box

If you had the space, you could use two small pullers, one on each stud. If no space for the pullers, I would try Capt. Bill suggestion, possibly with two hammers simultaneously, one on each side rotating the flange in the same direction.

Cutlass Bearing - how tight a fit -new

Was this first bearing in its housing when you slipped it over the shaft? It would be a tighter fit around the shaft if the bearing was inside the housing.

    Davit's or crane?

I would choose the crane. This keeps the swim platform clear of hardware and the dink itself. When using the dinghy frequently, for example during summer cruising, you can tow it and have it always readily available for use while having the space free in the flying bridge. For longer runs or...

    Anchor Chain "Flap" Question

Maybe you should ask the PO, I would think he would have a system to keep the flap from engaging when releasing chain. It could be he used that short string going from the round cotter pin to the flap. Maybe the PO twisted the cotter pin and the string kept the flap up. Or maybe he took a...

what's the boat of your dreams

This beauty was anchored next to us last summer. I couldn't keep my eyes off it! http://www.trawlerforum.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=51837&stc=1&d=1462985190

    Onan Generator not starting

You might be able to bypass the starting solenoid with a jumper cable going directly from the starting battery to the starter. If it cranks then you'll confirm the issue is related to the solenoid.

GB32 Wood. First Haul out What to expect?

From the photos she looks to be well maintained and generally in good shape. Yo will want to investigate and repair the water intrusion (blackenning seen in the photo) in the starboard side of the tramson. Check the soundness of both the tramson and the hull planks around these corners as they...

    Genset bleeding

With a strong start battery (or jumper cables just in case) this is a perfectly good method to bleed diesel engines and certainly easier than messing with the fiddly manual pumps. One needs to be careful and shut-down as soon as the engine starts to keep fuel from squirting around too much.

    Ford Lehman 120 Bad cylinder

Water can certainly make its way to the FL 120 #6 cylinder through the exhaust port. I have seen both raw water and coolant end up there.

    Anchor setting Videos

The bent shank in the Fortress is good reminder that these anchors should not be used with all-chain rodes. In their website Fortress does recommend elastic rode (nylon three-strand) and "Bahamian mooring in "areas of changing tide or wind".

    Anchor setting Videos

Thank you Steve. As usual very useful information, good analysis and beautiful presentation! While some would argue that a multi-knot re-setting speed as you have used is unrealistic or unfair in a test I believe it is something that can happen and the main bower should be able to deal with...

    Day tank

Also, you need to be careful the fuel transfer pump is appropriate as a substitute lift pump in terms of pressure and thruput: too much and there could be consequences.

    Day tank

You definitively do not want to connect it after the secondary filter ("engine filtration") as you should not bypass this filters(s). If you connect it before the lift pump I believe you run the risk of pumping diesel into the crankcase in case the problem with the lift pump is a broken...

    Day tank

I installed daytanks in my previous boat, a Grand Banks 42 with twin 120 hp Ford-Lehmans. When running with the daytanks I was able to simultaneously polish the main tanks while the boat was in motion. This way the polishing was more likely to pick-up any stirred-up crud. I have always...

    Salt water tap in galley

An electric dishwasher is a good way to save water. I find it is one of the most important pieces of equipment in our boat.

    "Kinship" Questions....

A few years ago I did a comparative consulting study of European yachts and took a close look at Sunseekers. The overall impression I took away was that they were very well built and finished, better than their direct British me-too competitors such as Fairline, Princess and Sealine.
