    Sort of a loop

Fair enough. I love the western Erie and agree with PierreR. I did Buffalo->Oswego earlier this year and It's a great trip. Lots of public dock space at every town. So if you enjoy it, then just turn around at Buffalo and head back and out at Oswego.

    Sort of a loop

Why do you have to go as far west as Buffalo? I'd suggest finger lakes then north to Oswego, then to Ottawa on the Rideau Canal then Montreal and back through Lake Champlain. If you do go through to Buffalo it's not hard to come back via the Welland Canal. The Canadian shore of Lake Ontario...

    DC2DC negative input/output

Maybe it's an isolated charger? Victron makes both isolated and non-isolated. The difference is the switched ground AFAIK.

    Eco-worthy batteries

That's what I did early last year. I'm entirely pleased with the batteries and the buying process.

    Hello from Lake Erie

Don't discount a trip on the Erie Canal. Buffalo down to the finger lakes is a lovely cruise. Welcome, and congrats on the new boat.

    Fuel filtration, lessons learned

Ammonia has attracted interest because it can be created from green sources rather than fossil fuels. Don't think we'll see it on rec boats any time soon.

    Eco-worthy batteries

The server rack batteries are looking increasingly attractive. If I were starting now I'd go in that direction. The innards don't really need to be sealed up in plastic for most of us. That's an artifact of the bad old days [emoji3]

Want to change boats but what?

Yep. But you can't always trust the skipper to know that [emoji3]. Might get wetter going faster.

Declining Speed throughout the Year : a Turbo Issue?

Weight makes a big difference. I had the same engine in my old 34 MY and there was close to 2 knots difference at top speed between all tanks empty vs full. How much stuff have you brought aboard? Is the boat sitting properly on its lines?

    Ballast & 26' Crosby Tug

How much ballast is required? Lead shot should be easy to pour in, and might be fine just lying in the bottom of the keel. In the old days people used to pour resin in on top to glue it all in place. Love the Crosby Tug. Got pics? Sounds like a complete restoration.

    Point of Use Water Heaters

Makes sense to me. I have a diesel furnace that provides hot water, but it bugs me to have to run the shower for a while to get the hot water through the lines. What about HW at the galley?

Slow Hand 2023 To Lake Superior and back

Hey Dave, I'm curious about this. What causes you to wait? Sea conditions, or entering/exiting port, or ? I was holed up at Cove Island about 100 miles east of you guys.

    What is this AC unit?

Agreed. It's almost certain to be 16k btu based on the power specs.

    Tornadoes

Insurance companies are very concerned. There was a recent article in the NYT describing massive changes in the reinsurance business. It's these guys that are facing losses for catastrophic climate related events, and they're very nervous and raising their prices accordingly. I think the age...

    Selene Quality

Right. Or whether an aftercooler is really needed on a trawler. Lots of boats get shipped with bigger engines than the builder or designer originally intended.

Slow Hand 2023 To Lake Superior and back

That's the bow from all old Laker, the John W Boardman. Brought in by barge, and turned into a unique cottage. Neat project, and they painted it in original colors. https://pasty.com/discus/messages/8345/8779.html

1993 Willard Launch / Patrol Boat, Anacortes WA, $100K

Welcome aboard Captain4v. There was some earlier discussion on your boat here a few months ago in the Interesting Boats thread IIRC. I have a UB50. Suits me well. Good luck with the sale.

    circumnavigation-West to East

I think the OP could have a nice sail south to Brazil then around the Cape of Good Hope and across the Indian Ocean. Then to Europe from the Phillipines.

    Wifi booster or extender?

That mirrors my experience, except I don't have Starlink yet. LTE/5g mobile data is fast and cheap these days, and available almost everywhere I go.

Generator Smoke and Soot Under Load

I've had that happen on small Yanmar auxiliaries. When it happens the water coming out is black at all speeds, and exhaust is black at higher speeds. That sounds consistent with the OP's description.

Generator Smoke and Soot Under Load

Modern inverter/chargers like the Multiplus can be set to manage generator loads. It sounds like you're bumping against the top end of the generator capacity, and this is an easy solution.

    Outback Inverter question

This sounds like your inverter shutting off due to low battery voltage rather than a GFI fault. That's consistent with decreased bank capacity. Sent from my moto g play (2021) using Trawler Forum mobile app

    TAMD41B sudden power loss

Did you see black smoke out the exhaust? It'd be hard to miss at high loads if the turbo failed. Sent from my moto g play (2021) using Trawler Forum mobile app

Thruster Upgrades on a Camano Troll - Convince me not to do it

Would your captains turn down a boat that didn't have a stern thruster? Would they have concerns about whether the thrusters were powerful enough? Do they routinely use thrusters to pin the boat to the dock? If they have millions of miles I'd love to hear their POV, and what they would view as...

Thruster Upgrades on a Camano Troll - Convince me not to do it

Clearly they should trade it in on a new model, or spend a few tens of thousands on an upgrade. It's great that wealthy boat owners can just skip all that traditional learning and enjoy safe secure push button docking. No more discussions of spring lines, prop torque or pivot points. No...
