Right or wrong... For 40 years, I've soldered, covered with shrink wrap and liquid tape. NEVER had a problem. YMMV...
There's actually no issue with soldering, it just can't be the sole source of connection. While I'd argue it's unnecessary, you can crimp, then solder the terminal end of the crimp, that's runs zero risk of solder running into the strands and leading to conductor failure.
