I purchased Gen 3 with mobile. After some reading, mounting it flat seeemd adequate for avoiding snags. A pole mount seemed rather vulnerable to all sorts of issues. I purchased the plastic mounting frame from one of the sites on Ebay, Zephyrs Market LLC. There were several choices of plastsic, and I chose the one most resistant to UV. Comes with mounting brackets and screws of excellent quality.
I mounted it on the top of my pilot house, starboard side, where there was once a KV radome- Satphone. Used the opening to run the wire. I liked the flat mounting--one less thing to snag me or lines, and far less vulnerable to wind damage. I have yet to caulk around the base but will this coming weekend. Took about three hourse to mount it, most of that devoted to taking down a section of ceiling paneling in the PH. Have loved its performance.
