What are these hoses for?

I’m still learning the different components of my 1996 GB 42.

I have these two hoses just forward of the fuel tanks on both sides . They appear to be some form of drain into the bilge but I can’t tell the origin. Anyone can enlighten me on this?

Ms. P. Every boat is different. They don't look like OEM equipment. Either put a water hose or the exhaust hose from a shop vac on the end and blow water/air into the hose then attempt to find where the water/ air is coming out the other end.

While I'm not sure, one place I would look would be the condensate drain for the air conditioners. Not uncommon for "wet" bilge boats to dump condensate in the bilge. I prefer a dry bilge and ran my condensate drains overboard or to the shower sump.

If they are 5/8" ID, they are most likely AC pan drains.

The far left Pic with the valve, or what ever that is. I would think it is the discharge for the holding tank.

The thing to do is follow the lines back to see where they go.

I see your VacuFlush vacuum tank so most of what I see are sewage hoses.

I’m looking to find out what are the clear hoses, not the white sanitation hoses. They are not AC drains or anything to do with the holding tank. They are some form of drain into the bilges but I have never seen any water coming out of them, even when it rains.

Ok, my next guess is maybe a drain from the refrigerator. Some frost free refrigerators drain the water from the defrost cycle to a pan below the refrigerator to let it evaporate. Fine for a house, not such a good idea on a boat.

Another consideration is an air break. My galley sink has an air break to facilitate flow through a long horizontal run that exits out the transom. This is similar to a house plumbing vent that goes through the roof to provide air flow as water travels through the waste plumbing.

I too would guess they are condensate drains from HVAC units. There would only be water from them when the air con is on, especially in humid weather, and even then we are talking drips to a trickle and no more.

Otherwise you will just have to follow them, and keep a look out for that type of hose elsewhere. It’s pretty distinctive.

WAG (wild-a**ed guess) but, on our 32, we have a similar hose in that spot, that is a drain hose for the water separator box on the engine room air intake. The louvers on the exterior cabin side admit air to a "dorade box" of sorts, the air has to change direction, up and over then down, to get to the engine room. Water would/could? accumulate in the bottom of this assembly, the hose drains it to the bilge. YMMV! Good luck.

The compartments of my fridge and freezer have drain-holes and hose down to the bilges.

I verified your suggested origin and you are correct. These drains are from the air intake boxes which the 42 has 4 of them.

Ah! Scott beat me to the likely answer. These may be drain hoses from the engine room vent boxes. I have similar hoses on my 1992 36' Grand Banks and have traced them back to the vent boxes. If you pop the vent grills off on the outside you may find the drains.

Those are drain hoses. One for each air intake into the engine room.
Water from spray or rain that enters those vents will be drained into the bilge via these hoses.
