Splendide ventless washer/dryer

Hello I have one on my boat, I need to put a siphon break in right now it drains continuously….my question is how many people are happy with it assuming it is installed correctly or should I just change it out for a vented combo model? Thanks

I use mine on occasion. Washing a load is no problem, drying takes too long and unless the GEN is running anyway, of little value. Use is thus planned.

I use my ventless OEM splendie washer daily.

When in a dry climate I have a clothes line up on the fly bridge.
When in a humid/wet climate the dryer gets the clothes damp, but not dry. but if you spread them out for a couple hours they are perfectly dry.

The non vented Splendide is better than nothing. The vented is definitely an improvement. If you have room to stack the new 24” conventional W/D are a big improvement.

I cruised for 8 years (9 months per year) with a vented Splendide. While you can loaded it up in the wash cycle, it's better to slit the load in two for the dry cycle. It worked very well like that. As I had a large alternator and inverter, it was very easy to do a load while underway without the generator running.

We've had two Splendide vented models now. One in our Motor Home, and one in our current boat. Actually three, as the current boat came with one that died shortly after we bought the boat, but it was 35 years old, so I figure it was entitled!

I would definitely NOT get he non vented one. It dries by using fresh water to condense the moisture in the air coming off of the clothes. It uses a LOT of water, takes a LOT of time, and doesn't dry well when it's working at the top of it's game.

The Vented models on the other hand . . . . Absolutely AWESOME!

We know many people who are tied to shore for fuel, fresh water, and laundry facilities. We have big tanks, a water maker, and the Splendide. We generally wash underway, or if at anchor, we start the laundry about 10:00 or so, so when it hits the dry cycle, the solar is bringing in the max wattage, and just run it off of solar.
We can't imagine a boat without a washer dryer, and we love the Splendide!

The only thing it can't wash is the king comforter, but for that we can use a marina based washer for the few times we need to wash it. Otherwise, it is just fine for the two of us. Even 4 people it does just fine.
It DOES take a long time to do a cycle (wash/dry), but it's not our time! By that I mean, fill it, turn it on, and it does the wash, switched to the dry, and Viola! Clean clothes while we were doing other things than sitting ina laundromat washing clothes every week.

We are definitely fans!

I just had to remove our Splendide to replace a leaking hot water tank. I had to disassemble it to get it out. I found two pieces of cast concrete that were about 20 lbs each inside. I think they were counterweights to balance out the tub when spinning. We hardly ever used it so it won't be going back in. Maybe a tool box will take it's place.

We had several vented models and were very pleased with them. But we loaded them according to the instructions. I doubt that we would have been happy with the non vented model.

Can't speak to the non-vented model, but our vented version seems to work OK.

Manual says to not run it while underway, I think?

Hmmm, if that's true, it's a rule we've broken multiple times over the last three+ years, and for 7 years prior to that in the motor home . . . .

For you folks with the Splendide, vented or non-, is the spin cycle adequate?

I have a non-vented Ariston. I've given up on the drying, so we hang the clothes on a rack to dry. But I first have to wring out the wet clothes before hanging. The spin cycle is short and slow in rpm's. Can't figure out how to change that.

It's only logical to me that a serious spin cycle would be a great benefit to any type of washer/dryer on a boat.

I think some judgement required here. Underway flat calm, we do with no concern. Underway pounding into 3’ head seas or surfing on a quartering sea, no way. Can’t imagine how upset the Splendide gets when spinning at 1200 RPM and the boat pounds or lurches.

Hey! Maybe it's a low cost alternative to those expensive and space consuming gyroscopic stabilization systems! You ought to check it out the next time you go out in those 6', 3 second quartering seas!

We had a vented one on our Loop boat - worked great. Would not have a NON-vented one.
