The seller who sold us our panels was adamant that we have breakers between the panels (425 watts total) and the MPPT controller. He was following code for house installations. They are occasionally useful but I don’t switch them off very often. We have a Blue Sea flush mount breaker between the MPPT controller and the battery. I use this one often as the panels are switched off when running as otherwise when the batteries are fully charged, the alternator sits down completely, loosing tachometer and some other instruments. There probably some sort of setting that can be adjusted but I have not done that.
