I know how fit out can drag on, it's so fiddly and takes for ever.

There is of course a little bit of concern sending large sums of money to another country but we felt very comfortable selecting Seahorse Marine to do the build based on the feedback we received from existing owners with ALL of the ones we contacted being very positive.*SHM have been around for a long time and the steel yard still has a large backlog of orders so we were confident that they could carry the fibreglass yard*through*any*bad times. SHM stand behind their product and have been extremely flexible and responsive to our requests. Existing owners also report great after sales service. We haven't reached that stage yet but it is comforting to know as it is*very rare that a new boat*doesn't have something that needs attention.*Our only real stress has been the value of the US$ which is what the contract was signed in. When we signed our dollar was worth 0.85c and fortunately it*has steadily increased to be worth more than $1 so that has meant we could afford a few more "toys" within the same budget we had originally set. It could equally have gone the other way which is what many of the "experts" were saying at the time.Old Stone wrote:
Don - didn't mean to hijack here. Your vessel is absolutely beautiful, the paint looks great, but talk about anxiety.........can't imagine the journey both you and Mark have been on with building these projects! The "what will go wrong" factor must have kept each of you up some nights! Hats off to you both.
*Sure hope so.* But the Coot has at least four more crane movements ahead before it gets into Oakland waters.Old Stone wrote:
Mark - Don't mean to change the thread, but now that your vessel is complete, and all that anxiety is behind you, how do you feel about retirement? You took on such a huge project that it would be hard to seperate that from any recurring questions about retirement. I trust a state of peace will come upon you once your vessel is delivered to you and you won't have time to worry about going back to work.
Love the looks of dark-hulled boats like yours and mine.Navigator wrote:
The painting has commenced.* The Admiral gets the credit/blame for the colour selection.

*The list price of the Coot has risen from $199,000 U.S. when I ordered mine (and paid)*to a current price of $250,000.Navigator wrote:Our only real stress has been the value of the US$ which is what the contract was signed in. *Seahorse, itself,*doesn't hardly*advertise.* Its yards (steel and fiberglass)*are busy, overhead is low.Moonstruck wrote:
Beautiful!* Seahorse Marine is coming out a winner* You can"t buy this kind of advertising
Seems this thread has "passed away" but I find myself at the Seattle Boat Show where there is a very nice Seahorse 52.
Wonder if everyone is still pleased with their purchase.
This boat is certainly in my possibilities.
I wonder how it ended up working out for them. The website Kekada hasn't been updated since 2011... Hope all is well, and would very much like to hear their opinion of the boat after they've put some oceans beneath her.
Hi Dubnuh,
There was a tragic accident onboard. Luckily, no one was hurt.
