I have a 2006 with 440 yanmars which I just love! hard to beat the OA 42 Sedan for a Southern California boat as it cruises in the high teens, has 2 staterooms, a great fly bridge and is priced right.:lol:Are there any Ocean Alexander 42 Sedan drivers here?
Cruising SoCal is not like a lot of other places in that there is a lot of "open water" between destinations down here. A boat that cruises in the the mid to high teens gets you there quicker and of course, off the open water quicker.When you mention a "Southern California Boat" what does that entail?
Absolutely! I'm comfortable outside San Diego Bay on a 23 footer if the weather permits! I'm not comfortable on anything if the sea is acting up!Are you comfortable outside of San Diego Bay on a 42 footer? Is a 42 foot OA ok to take to Ensenada or San Francisco from San Diego?
San Diegans do all kinds of boating here. Sailing, fishing, bay cruising, voyages, etc. We just don't have the scenery that the PNW, the south eastern US, the north eastern US or the Delta has. When storms hit here ((about 2-3 times a year, you are still protected when cruising San Diego Bay. Of course, I challenge any other part of the country to match our weather. It's absolutely the best!We are interested in the San Diego area for a warm weather refuge in a few years, and are wondering what sort of boating one does there.
There's not much that I didn't know about the OA 42 as I owned one 20 years ago. If the boat you are interested in is the 2005 at the Kona Kai (sp?) I toured it about a month ago. She is almost an exact duplicate of my boat in that she has a hard top, dinette instead of a down helm, twin side x side births in the guest stateroom, etc. and 440 Yanmars as you have already mentioned. Had I not bought the OA I have now, I would definitely buy the Kona Kai boat!......but I am considering purchasing a OA 42 Sport Sedan with Yanmar 440s.
Sea Fever, I sent you a PM. Please check your messages.My wife and I will do the sea trial on the OA at Kona this weekend. Do you have any advise for us before we do the sea trial?
Well, SeaFever, his wife & my wife and I finally got together in San Diego. They bought the 2005 OA 42 and are quite excited at present. We met on "Sandpiper", exchanged pleasantries & then went to "Coasterra" for a late lunch. We hope they locate in our marina as our Ocean Alexander group is growing fast! So far, we have a 64, 58, 48, 46 & 3- 42s that I know of. OAs are really catching on at SunRoad Marina!Sea Fever, I sent you a PM. Please check your messages.
Good to hear! Sea Fever, you couldn't have a better slip neighbor tha[n] Walt, except for the fact that ....
Walt;I have a 2006 with 440 yanmars which I just love! hard to beat the OA 42 Sedan.
Al, that IS Rescue tape on the rag! Are you saying that the rescue tape won't mar the hull? Geez, this is a tough crowd!Walt, if you have some Rescue Tape, that'd make a great replacement for that rag taped to your new cord..
I appreciate the new pic! The new upright frig holds a hell of a lot more though.In all fairness to Walt, here's the condition of his fridge on Seahorse II the last time I saw it.
Renee added the lights in the liquor cabinet so Dave Hawkins wouldn't have a problem finding the JD.
(Like that's a real problem!)
I've never been aboard a 42 Classico so I can't comment on that.Walt;
1-If you have seen the 42 Classico, is engine access in your boat the same ie through the forward steps and via cabin sole lift outs?
2-Have you seen the 42 with either 3208's or 6B's and how do they and the Yanmars compare for ease of servicing?
Lastly, any tips on what to watch out for with the Yanmars during the shopping process?
.
Renee did a super job on upgrading to LEDs throughout the boat. We thought they were too bright but rather than adding a bunch of dimmers, she bought thin plastic sheets that are translucent and in 4 different colors. Gold, brown, red & gray. She removed all the lenses, traced around them on the sheets, cut out the discs and laid them on the re-installed lenses. Since the LEDs have no heat, she was able to get the exact mood lighting that she wanted. They really look great and when we have a wine or two, I might get lucky!Emergency night lights. I love 'em, but I sure hope they're LED!!!
