Thanks for accepting my registration! Just bought a 42 Jefferson, Sundeck MY. Took delivery up in Northern VA. up the Potomac river. Was making our way down To Jacksonville, FL ( her new home) and had to leave her in Charlston, SC while the starboard motor is having her Fuel Pressure Pump rebuilt. Low hours on these CAT 3208's but she hasn't been used as much as we had pushed her in the last 10 days. More to come!
Cheers!

Welcome aboard. Congratulations on your new boat.

Glad to have you here. Do I assume you are not new to this boating for fun business?

Hey Coconut Runner. I have owned a 1987 42 Jefferson Sundeck for 4 years. I love my boat. I would be interested in keeping up with what you are doing to your boat; mechanics, engines, upgrades, etc. I have the 3208T 260hp engines on mine. I have around 2600 hours on the engines. Since i have owned the boat I have installed 12v receptacles, fans, frig, etc. to make it more able to anchor out. I am curious about your battery set up. I have an 8D dual purpose FLA for each engine that also doubles as house batteries. Mine are from NAPA and have 190AH on each battery. I also have a 4D FLA dedicated to the Westerbeke generator.

Welcome abord , allot of boat for the size

Greetings Duanegeib, Fuel Pressure pump was rebuilt and reinstalled a few weeks ago, we left Charlston this passed Saturday, after the Helene passed and made it to JAX at noon today. she ran beautifully with no issues. we ran between 7.5 knots and 10 knots. We have a lot or work to do her so will try to keep you posted. I would also like to hear about or upgrades, etc. We are going to rip out the original seating in he salon, and try and find something comfortable like corner pit with ottoman, etc.. She needs some love and care. all port holes and a few windows needs attention as they are leaking. we have 2 banks of 3 AGM batteries and 2 more for Generator.
More later Capt!

Hello CR and DuaneGeib! Given your relevant knowledge, and the potential for very expensive fuel tank replacement would you advise to "run" from the idea of an offer on a late 80s Jefferson 42, OR proceed with caution, get a good survey done by a reputable marine surveyor, and if all looks good make an offer? Thank you from the new guy! I've asked the Commander on another thread... I'm looking at an '87 Jeff42 Sundeck with twin Cats -- love the layout but don't want to get hammered with a money pit (at least of the large variety - e.g. fuel tank replacement)

Greetings Duane, The Jefferson is sound vessel, she is worth keeping and I wouldn't run from an opportunity. All 35 yr old vessels are going to need a certain level of love and care. most important systems are made to last. I still haven't been able to verify that I actually do have a leak in my fuel tank and will continue pushing the limits to try and determine if I do or not. By all means, get a good surveyor and best of luck with your new boat. Let us know what yo decide!
