Need to replace an old wooden setup with aluminum rig for lifting tender and supplies over the side. Any suggestions on make and sources for new or used equipment would be appreciated. Much Thanks, Rick

Check out local boatyards, nautical consignment/resale places for cheap spars or booms.

Agreed, I replaced a wood boom on our Willard Vega with part of a small sailboat mast. Worked great. Wait until big storm or hurricane, many spars available then LOL:socool:

CD would you happen to have pictures of that set up? I bought an old sailboat mast as well but I am still trying to decide if and how I want to make it. I may make some type of structure/arch instead.

Just checked and I do not have a photo showing the boom conversion. I sold the boat so don't have access to it. What I did was cut off end of my wood boom which had the fitting on it. I slipped into the aluminum extrusion, so I didn't have to modify the aluminum boom to match the fitting. The goose neck at the mast fit perfectly and just bolted up. I was keeping my eye out for a larger extrusion to replace the mast. That would be a little more difficult because we would have to mount the radar. As I said, sold the boat before I got that task done.

Coincidentally I’m replacing my old wooden mast right now as well. I sourced a section of sailboat mast too. I’m using 12 feet of it, swept spreaders for the rear stays, re shaped the old tabernacle to accommodate the wider section. I turned some bronze inserts to make a bigger loading area on the aluminum where it hinges. It’s not mounted yet, I’m waiting for dry weather to make the connection to the new mast step I glassed in during the fall.

Not exactly what you're after. But it shows that the above suggestions re: recycle sailboat mast is solid. Katrina salvage.

Also made bolt on spreaders. Before somebody says it - yep, poor flag etiquette, I know.

Bronze inserts In aluminum mast. Think that over a bit

Yeah, I haven’t actually finalized what I’m going to do there. There was some stainless hardware I removed that had a fair amount of corrosion too. I can make up almost anything to go in the hinge area, and I can turn a delrin or nylatron bushing for isolation. Easy enough to ream the hole for bushing allowance.

That sounds like it would work. Having the capabilities to make sleeves and bushings is sooo nice
