Hello - I'm new to this site and looking forward to making new friends and seeing what it has to offer. I just bought a new (new to me) tralwer. Boat will be in Northern Cal until we will eventually take it up to PNW and SE Alaska for extensive cruise/liveaboard. First upgrades will likely be to the aging electronics and some sort of hydronic heating.

I've had several boats before, but nothing this big and beefy. She's not fast but is very efficient giving her a 4,000+ mile range.

This is my first venture into a steel boat. I've got some learning to do.

Craig

Boat looks beautiful. Good luck with her, safe travels and may all your tides be favorable!

Welcome aboard!
It isn't every new member who brings along an authentic TRAWLER.
Sorry, had to stop and clean off the drool.
Yes, we need more pictures.

Great looking boat.

I am jealous of your hydraulic anchor windlass.

Tell us more about her. Boat make, engine, etc.

Thanks guys - a few more pics. I wrote the big check today, so hope to have it formally in a couple days.

Craig

That is an awesome boat. I looked at that a few times on Yachtworld. It was perfect for my dream of cruising down to Baja, through the canal and eventually end up in Jamaica.

Welcome aboard and congrats on your new boat. She is beautiful.

Welcome Aboard. That is truly a beautiful boat. You can sure see the previous owners pride of ownership.

Have Fun

pete

Max - Yep. That's the one! I'm sure I'll find something to regret. Everything is built to last. I love the traditional keel cooled/dry stack arrangement with the zombie apocalypse 3306 caterpillar - nothing to fail. 4" diameter shaft.

Nice,
care to share the specs

It's still up on Yachtworld likely for a couple days.

https://www.yachtworld.com/boats/20...marine-long-range-pilothouse-trawler-3567416/

In the end, it's a heavy steel boat built from a tried and true commercial fishing boat design. The original owner was a boat builder who built it for his personal use. First launched in 2006. But has a low hour older mechanical 3306 caterpillar that was de-tuned to 175hp. Dry stacked and keel cooled. Shaft is 4" dia AQ19. Three fuel tanks totalling 2500 gallons. The windows are all 1/2" thick. The port holes were salvaged from a liberty ship with 3/4" thick glass. Love it.

There was a thread ‘ define a trawler’ . Asked and answered.

Looks real nice you know what your fuel economy is at differet speeds?

Yep! Ya done good there Mate! Enjoy your new pride and Joy, but use her as often as you can!
Cheers!

My boat has been criticized for lacking a flying bridge but having forward-leaning pilothouse windows. :D

Looks real nice you know what your fuel economy is at differet speeds?

Prior owner reported 3gal/hr at 8 knots. Sea trial we were doing 8.5 knots at 1150 rpms. Time will tell. I suspect when I do long runs, I'll run it 1000 rpms and ~7 knots. I'm hopeful and believe it will be very efficient.

I was truly blown away by the efficiency of the new 5kw gen from Northern Lights. At 1/2 load it burns 0.28gal/hr. I thought I was going to have to suffer, but with that fuel burn rate, we can stay out for months.

What do you mean the "3306 caterpillar that was de-tuned"? Do you mean like a limiter put in or previously turbo?

I believe the original owner had re-calibrated the fuel injection pump to limit full throttle to 175hp. Normally this engine would be 250+hp.

Seemed adequate to me but only ran it for 5 hours or so. Seeing that it's been that way since 2006, I suspect its fine.

Nice ocean cruiser. Congrats! Welcome to TF!!

Craig,

Welcome. Love your new boat! Great lines, bulletproof in many ways. Would love to get aboard! Great find.

Enjoy!
