Interesting boats

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I'd expect you need to account for that in the baffle design regardless of intended usage, as any tank will be partially full at some point while the boat is in use.

Somebody just posted ....

"A roll your own (presumably) Diesel Duck 46." It had a YouTube link. But, before I could respond the post was removed.

My response was that we went to see the boat in person and it was a very unkempt, nasty boat.

When I had my N46 tied to the dock, with storm or hurricane coming, I always filled the water tanks.

Thinking about this a bit, is it wise to increase the weight of a boat at a dock with a storm coming? Wouldn't increased weight put added stress to the dock lines and hardware as the heavier boat with more momentum gets tossed about by the storm? Just curious if there is a consensus on whether you want to lighten a boat at a dock or make it heavier in preparation for a storm.

If there's a lot of wave action, I'd say weight is bad (more stress on lines). But with just gusty winds and minimal wave action, weight will likely smooth out the motion. Might not reduce loading on the lines, but if you're on board, it may be more comfortable.

Yes, then I suddenly remembered that it had already been mentioned here, and worse yet I had even commented on it at the time

Price has been reduced though. Maybe that's why it popped (no pun intended) back up in my search alert email this morning.

I think it was listed for $250,000 the first time around. A $5,000 price reduction is not much and seems like a way just to get the listing to "refresh."

Thanks for posting about the DD. Just looking at the original ask and comparing it to what other 46s are going for I thought it was trouble so didn’t go see it. Seems that was a good decision.

The lighter boat will have more sudden and accelerated motion. Also ride a bit higher so more wind effects. Think it’s a trade off between sudden shock loading and forces due to weight. However your docks lines aren’t the boat up but rather the forces from rolling and heaving so my inclination would be full tanks even though a heavier object in motion contains more energy. . I believe in a seaway most prefer full tanks as well. Interesting question. Look forward to other replies.

I will have to go see her, she's only a few miles from me.

I went and saw this boat 2 years ago, it still had not been repaired from the Hurricane damage it took. This is a home built Duck, guy put a lot of time and effort into building this boat himself. Problem is there is just too many things on the boat that don't make sense, add in the hurricane damage it had at the time, and it was a hard pass.

At the time I went and saw it, $100K is all I thought it was worth, and while they might have repaired the hurricane damage, no way this boat is worth $250K.

When we looked at her we were at $50K.

If I recall right that DD is not fiberglass. It’s wood with FG sheathing

As in ply with an exterior epoxy/glass skin?
Double diagonal with an exterior epoxy/glass skin?
Traditional planked with an exterior epoxy/glass skin?

or strip planked with epoxy/glass inside and out?

This boat just showed up in our marina last week. I have no idea what it is or where it's made, but it's beautiful in my opinion. Looks a lot like it was styled after the tuna seiners we used to have a lot of around San Diego before they all ran off to Panama.

I want one....

Gorgeous!

Reminds me a bit of this beauty that just popped up on YW. Holy smokes...

https://www.yachtworld.com/yacht/1991-knight-$-carver-custom-pilothouse-58-8110121/

Some new electronics and an updated galley and that would make an awesome boat. I remember when they used to build those at the yard near the Sports Arena. I used to scrounge fiberglass off cuts from them and tried to get a job in the yard when I was a kid. Was really fun to watch the progress of them cold molding them next to I8. That boat is a looker for sure.

I think I saw this boat years ago at the Ft Lauderdale Boat Show, name was The Bull, I think its about 90 feet?

I think this is a cool boat, always heard Knight and Carver are well built boats.

That's the one I posted just recently - great minds, etc...

What's the forum consensus on the price? $690k seems very steep for a 1991 boat with outdated electronics - maybe double what I would have expected from looking at somewhat comparable DeFevers, OA's, etc. Are these boats really that special? I don't know much about the big MAN V-10's either.

I think that boat is about $150K too high considering dated electronics and appliances. It does look to have been well kept but no engine room pics unfortunately. MAN engines of that flavor should be good but my guess is they are thirsty at the rate 15 knot cruise and parts would be pricey.
Interesting that it has a bulb on the bow, wonder if it was original?

Still a cool boat.

Agreed with all....boat prices are at all time highs.

Now this has classic lines and would make an interesting dock condo if you could afford the dockage fee. Seems like as much boat I have seen in a while for 450k. But that of course is just the tip of the iceberg. Ultrasound Audio Gauging anyone?

US$449,000 tax included

WOW! Only drawback I see is it looks like not full stand up headroom in engine compartment. For me that simply does not work. If it has 6'3" or more height... then it could be a 100% go!

That engine compartment is larger than my first apartment.

And if you buy it you get to meet a famous celebrity:

BTW, I wonder if I can convert it to a trawler. Pull out those ridiculous 12 cylinder engines and replace them with a couple of little Kubotas.....

Yes that, or elecric motors, the whole roof solar cells, massive li battery bank, and a modern kite sail.. Ready to go as a great liveaboard cruiser.
