Is there a "Today's Posts" button? Makes it easier to find a current thread that hasn't had a new post in the last 24 hours.

Ted
It looks like the "what's new" button at the top (in the menu on mobile) is pretty much like the old "new posts" screen.

The "what's new" only shows threads with new posts. The old "today's posts" allowed you to read threads and then later post without having to hunt for them in the sub forums.

It took me a while to figure out that TF is the only site (that I've ever visited, anyway) that has renamed Private Messages--of which I get a bunch and which is universally known-- "Conversations." PM is the universally known term...I strongly recommend you restore that name for them 'cuz if I didn't know what "conversations" means, no one else will either.

What happened to daily digests for subscribed forums? They no longer show up and instead I'm getting a bunch of emails for individual threads - which I find annoying.

Yes - it has a different name, however. Look at the top for "What's New"

Greetings,
Agree with all of the above.
There is no delineation between posts I've read and the rest of the new posts.
Lost my "new" avatar.
I'm trying to like the new format but...

Just found the underline button: What the hell is "inline code" and "inline spoiler"??? I can't be the only old fart who isn't up with the "latest and greatest".

Oh and thanks for the OP inclusion.

One thing we could not save was the record of what you've read and what you haven't read. BUT this software can do the same even though the old history was not retained. Here is a recap of the info in post 1 of this thread.

You may need to Mark a forum "read" for this to work correctly moving forward. The conversion could not "remember" what you have already seen and so initially all threads may appear as unread.
To do this, open a forum and look for the link at the top of the list of threads to "Mark Read"

Inline code allows you to add extra markup to a post (like colors and fancy formatting) beyond the current buttons on the tool bar that do this.

The spoiler alert is a warning that masks text and is commonly used to prevent someone from seeing an important detail that is about to be revealed but where knowing it may ruin the story. (sort of like reading the end of the book first).

Example:

Q: What do you get when you cross a dentist and a boat?
A Tooth Ferry!

I guess I can try that but it doesn't seem it will address my question... marking all threads as already read would (I expect) reduce the number of notification emails for "new threads/conversations". OK, but that's not the core issue of my question - I don't want notifications at a thread granularity. I prefer ONE daily summary digest with a list of new or updated threads - the o;d forum did that very well. Unless I specifically subscribe to a particular thread, I do NOT want to get many emails for threads during the course of a day from trawler forum.

Is there a digest facility within the new forum software?

You may want to check your notification preferences: https://www.trawlerforum.com/account/preferences

I really like the new look and feel. Great job on the update! Thanks for all the work put into it.

In the past day we've been working to update the forum to a new software platform and we've been offline. Welcome back! The new forum software is called Xenforo and there are some new features and functions.

LOGIN CHANGE:
Your account can be accessed by logging in with your e-mail address or username (that displays on posts) plus the password for your account. If you are having trouble with this and can't get through the password reset process you can click the contact link at the bottom of the page to reach out for help.

If you've set up a new account because you couldn't access your old one let us know. We can consolidate these and get you logged back into your old account.

There are many new features and I encourage you to wander around, test things out and then visit your profile and do some updating. Please keep in mind that changes and adjustments are still being made and so views will become more refined over the next few days.

Update your profile:
  • Consider uploading a new avatar (little pic next to your posts). The new site accommodates larger images and old avatars are looking a little tired. Avatars will automatically resize - choose a good one!
  • Update your signature if needed
  • Add a profile banner - larger image that displays on your profile page
Mobile viewing
The site runs well on small screens. Try it out on the road, and use your regular login - no app required. Set a bookmark for the site on mobile for fast access and look for push notifications (coming soon) to stay up to date.

Thread marking:
The forum remembers what you have already read and will display new unread threads as bolded or when you click into an ongoing thread, take you to unread content BUT:

There are many things still being tweaked and fiddled with and you will continue to see some changes but we wanted to get back online as soon as possible - thanks in advance for your patience.

Still under construction:
Library (manuals and docs)
New Forum 101 Thread (how to navigate the board and configure accounts)

Post up if you have questions - we're all learning
Is a mobile app available from the App Store?

No. The site is entirely viewable on mobile using a browser. The sizing is responsive. Just open a browser on your device and navigate to the site. Consider setting a bookmark for the site on your home screen.

Using Chrome you'll find this option in the top right under the browser tools. (3 small dots) >add to home screen >install. An app is not really installed BUT an app-like icon is loaded to your device with a link to the site. Very handy.

Safari has a similar function.

Liking it so far, thanks!!

This may be a dumb question, but when I click "Remember Me" at logon, it doesn't. I rarely logged on to the old one; as long as I used the same machine and same browser, it remembered me. So far with this new one, I've had to log on every time. Anyone else seeing this, or is it just me?

Look for the small nav bar link to "new posts"

This should have been done years ago. Xeneforo is superior to VB.

A lot of the new forum software packages have ditched the PM or DM in favor of conversations. Just something to get used to.

You know the AGLCA did modification to their Forum about 3 years ago in the name of "modernization." It ruined a :good thing"for me...I just dont get why some computer whiz tbough changing names of itrms was their prrrogative.

I like the fresh new look! I'm sure it will take a while for people to get used to it but that's always the case, it needed an update IMHO. Oh and no prob with the Avatar, it took me maybe two minutes to simply remove and replace with an appropriately sized pic.

No, that's not it.

"Today's Posts" in the old software showed all threads with one new post in the last 24 hours. Regardless of how often you checked "Today's Posts" would show the thread whether it had received another new post or not. In that menu, threads with new posts that you hadn't seen were bolded. Threads without a new post since you checked last weren't bold.

BTW, if viewing the site in a browser versus the app on a phone, the menus change ( include other options) on the horizontal toolbar depending on whether the phone is held in portrait or landscape.

Ted

Add another. Eventually you'll get it right ;)

Fair enough. Software changes are a bit like Kitchen remodels. Everything is in the wrong place for a while. Give it some time...
That may be true as long as the sink still fits the counter. I tried rectangles portrait and lanscape and square, under 400 x 400 and up to 800 x 800. Either the stern or some of the bow and stern are cropped off.

Oh well, no avitar on my account.

I like the new look, but noticed that everyone's boat type is now no longer shown under the Avatar. Is that under some sort of setting? Or are we trying not to shame one another on how big our boats are?
