Has anyone previous experience with a Seapro 240 type fuel polishing or primary filter setup? Building an explorer yacht (see other thread) and am trying to develop a simple reliable fuel cleaning system in the expectation of loading dodgy fuel at some point.

7000 litres in 6 fuel storage tanks, plus 2 by 3/400 litre day tanks. 2.4gph JD 4045 engine say 10 gph with bypass. 100 gph fuel transfer rate. looking at polishing between tanks and to include day tanks. Seapro Filters advertise 7 micron capability plus water so we supply on engine filters with clean fuel.

Looked at Fleetguard, Racor and two proprietary polishing systems. Like the dirt storage and simplicity of the Fleetguard SeaPro system though my throughput is lower than they are capable of. They are a bit $$$. Seeking to a second option from a more user? Thanks chaps.

Your system requirements are substantial but here is my example of a Tony Athens sequential filtering system. The first filter is a 20-micron "mud" filter. The second is 10 microns. These filters supply both a main engine and a generator on each side, port and starboard. The filters are large and are quite easy to change. Shut fuel supply, spin off filter, spin on a new one, open fuel supply, open bleeder (10 seconds does it), close bleeder, start engine. No fuss, no mess. You could even triple filter by adding a 30-micron filter in line. The vacuum gauges will tell you when it is time to change any one filter. Changing both filters takes maybe five minutes altogether.
