This may not be specific to the factory rigging of Mainships, but apparently at least one vessel we know of left there with a multi-inlet shower/AC sump with the AC drain inlet plugged. These sumps come from Attwood or whatever other manufacturer with the various inlets plugged so that the end user may cut the plugs off as required. One Mainship 30 Pilot II owner discovered his AC drain pan full and his compressor corroded through after years of sitting in the water. Others have found the drain hose kinked causing the pan to fill. No telling how many air conditioners have corroded due to these causes. Pan tablets also need to be placed in the pans.

Thanks for posting this information

This information is worth verifying on our vessels.Ive discovered in 7 months of MS Pilot 30-II ownership that the MS plant installation and QC appears to have varied from shift to shift. Good recommendations Rich!

Pan tablets

Duetto,

Rich refers to tablets that are placed in your AC evaporator coil’s drain/drip pan that collects the condensate off the coil. A tablet(s) will combat the development of potentially harmful microbial deposits in the pan. Ever heard of “Legionaires Disease” which killed people back in the 80’s? The AC industry eventually developed system design and service maintenance specifications to prevent this.

You can find the tablets from many online suppliers directly or thru most of the marine retail stores and ship’s stores at marinas most likely.

Cheers,
Rob

Thanks for saving me the "ink," Rob! :)

The pan tablets also will cut down on sludge and odors. Also check the the pan is mounted where it can drain well too
