I tried to reserve Brunswick Landing Marina, Brunswick GA for the winter based on many recommendations. I was placed on a waiting list but was verbally encouraged by a staffer that they very likely would be able to fit me in. I went south from Narragansett RI a couple of weeks ago with that hope in mind. Now I'm told it will be unlikely. So now I am en route, two weeks away, and now faced with no room at the inn in the end. So I'm a bit stuck.

Does anyone have any ideas for plan B wintering locations in the Georgia, or lower South Carolina areas? Brunswick Landing was so economical and highly recommended, I am very disappointed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Jim Andersen, Katy Leigh, 36 Grend Banks

Are you planning to live aboard over the winter? That will narrow your options.

Also, by limiting your query to Georgia or SC, did you intentionally exclude north Florida?

There's a Morningstar marina (Golden Isles) near Brusnwick, on St. Simons Island. Rebuilt not long ago, nice place.

The city dock in Fernandina Beach is nice, ditto rebuilt not long ago.

Port 32 (was Ortega Landing) in Jacksonville is very nice, but maybe not inexpensive.

No idea about costs or availability.

There are Safe Harbor marinas in Port Royal and Beaufort. I mention because when we stayed at SH Charleston last winter, we were able to get a 4-month contract, which in turn qualified us for SH membership for the rest of this year.... and some of the perks offset the cost.

In addition to Port 32 in Jacksonville, Sadler Point Marina is another option.

Once you have a short list, it might worth the effort to park the boat, rent a car for a few days and visit your potential marinas so you know what you’re getting into.
