I thought it would be interesting to see the progression from youth to... lets call it Knowledge in the boats people have owned.

My first boat of my own was a 1968 Starfire 18' flat bottom jet boat. This is the boat that scared the heck out of the wife, powered by a 383 chevy and a Berkley pump it would do a solid 50mph. What scared her was we took it from Washington Park to Friday Harbor..

Jb - Judging from your list o' boats, and the last sentence... Seems you'd like next boat to have capability to act like a full displacement hull whenever traveling at 6 to 8 knot slowwww cruise might please you. But... also be able to at least pick up and go at some speed - say, 16 to 20 + knots, whenever you desire.

I recommend hard chine planing hull or possibly a semi displacement hull [whose design leans toward the planing hull side]. Also, I believe in twin inboards! Great slow speed handling, redundancy, plenty o' power to go faster!

Yes— I am leaning towards a Catamaran or possible something like a Mikelson Nomad or one of the others like her —Offshore etc. I love to fish and dive, and ultimately I want to spend time in the South Pacific — but I am going to need to work up to that— Plan at this point is to cruise Caribbean for a year or 2 —Spending 3-5 months on the boat and then see where i go from there- It may be that I need to buy a starter boat and try it out and then if the ditch and Marquesas pear in the scope— sell and upgrade or just ship what I have over there. Wife says— lets just charter and let someone else deal with it. But, since we bought the ranch — I havent had a boat— its the first time in 30 years I have not owned at least 1 boat, and it does not feel right at all.
