AC pump repair

My brother gave me the below pictured Dometic air conditioner pump. As you can see, the male threads on the outlet nipple are stripped. It works perfectly other than that and I hate to throw stuff like this away, so I decided to see if I could repair it to use as an emergency spare for my boat.


For the record, I would not use this pump in any kind of permanent application, it would just be a spare to keep on board to get me through a trip if my other pump failed. Since it pumps raw water through it, this needs to be a solid repair. Obviously, I would carefully test it as well prior to using it. I also would not run it when I was off of the boat.



My initial thought was to try to replace the entire bottom half of the pump, the plastic part, but I have been unable to find the part. So now I'm considering how I could repair just the nipple. I'm leaning toward gluing a PVC fitting on to it but nothing fits exactly. Maybe build it up with thickened epoxy?

Unfortunately that is likely plastic which you cannot bond to, polypro, acetal, or something likewise non-bondable. Your only hope would be to try and cut the treads deeper into the boss which means you would need to cut down the OD below it carefully to match the outside thread diameter then run a die down it. I wouldn't trust it for long though.

I recently repaired the same problem (broken threaded piece). I found the front assembly on eBay. It looks like a March pump so best to confirm.
