1997 Mainship 34 Motor Yacht
Greetings, I’m helping a friend with a 1997 mainship 34 motor yacht with his prop shaft stuffing boxes. It has 2” shafts and boat is 5 hours away. I’m assuming it uses 3/8” packing but would rather be sure. It has the standard gland style boxes with the two nuts that you tighten down. I thought maybe someone here would know right away. Many thanks

Our last boat had 2” shafts and took 3/8” packing. We used Duramax packing and it was awesome. You can adjust it so there are no leaks after breakin.

I would be buying 3/8 plus a size bigger and smaller. Packing is way cheaper than the fuel you will use in a 5 hour drive.

Good advice, I took 3/8 and 1/4" with me. Guess what it ended up being 5/16".
In the end it got done and ended up buying the boat.
