Cummins VT555 low power & smoke

Hello, Robby - I’m always interested in anything to do with Cummins 555 engines, as we are the new owners of a 1986 Hershine 42 (bought from the original owners this summer) with the original engines in it. I hope you find your answers here.

    It’s official: Hershine 42’ owners

@CharlieO, my husband had experience 30+ years ago as well, fishing in Alaska during the summers. He has also crewed on sailboats (and enjoys both power and sailing). I’ve lived by the water pretty much all my life, but am a big-boating novice and am learning everything as quickly as possible...

Thank you, @slowgoesit and @cheechako! Our maiden voyage (from Tacoma to Blake Island, Poulsbo and back) was great fun and we’re learning a lot. Have a lot more questions and am looking forward to tapping into the wisdom here. Happy boating to both of you!

Boat house vs. custom (canvas) cover

Great discussion - thank you I appreciate reading all of your experiences and thoughts about this. We were unable to find uncovered moorage closer than 45 minutes away, so the hour drive is tolerable to us. The difference in moorage price in this situation is only about $100 a month, plus the...
