Moving to upstate NY, take the Halvorsen with me?

Yup. I've spent most of my life swimming against the tide. But in my defense, I am running from Baltimore as far and as fast as I can. Inmates running the asylum, quite literally. I spent every summer (early May through early September) as a kid at the family's place on Trout lake. It was a...

Moving to upstate NY, take the Halvorsen with me?

I will keep the Halvorsen at the new-to-me farm for the upcoming season. First priority will be moving fence lines, removing trees (and stumps), reframing the barn's second floor, putting in cobblestone entrances to the barn top & bottom, planting food for me and planting sunflower, corn, rye...

Moving to upstate NY, take the Halvorsen with me?

Thanks for the tip, jflongwell. I may just put the Halvorsen in the barn and pick up something small and trailerable.

Moving to upstate NY, take the Halvorsen with me?

She's a keeper. Lovely boat, low hours (118), and the hull number is extra special. She's been kind of like a barely used piece of furniture in the dusty part of the house. [/IMG]

Moving to upstate NY, take the Halvorsen with me?

Trucked. New York harbor and the Hudson are way out of my comfort zone. I have used Certified Marine Transport in the past to move my Herreshoff 38 cat ketch along the I-95 corridor. I've been very happy with them. I will put that boat up for sale in the near future.

Moving to upstate NY, take the Halvorsen with me?

Are diesel powered boats allowed on the finger lakes? Or gasoline, for that matter?

Moving to upstate NY, take the Halvorsen with me?

My new location will be a small farm due East of Ithaca and halfway between Binghamton and Syracuse. I've looked at the canal system and find it pretty confusing. I expected/hoped to find an assortment of marina options but, with a couple of exceptions, they seem limited to light craft and small...

Moving to upstate NY, take the Halvorsen with me?

I have a Halvorsen 32 Gourmet Cruiser and am perplexed as to whether It would be feasible/practical to keep it on one of the finger lakes (very close) or lake Ontario (about 70 miles away). Any insights and or advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Navigation Software

OpenCPN. I just installed on spare laptop, downloaded charts (vector) from Maine to Key West, and installed the "sister" app "Bluetooth GPS Out" on my android phone (note 8). It is awesome! Will run an HDMI cord from laptop to new 24" monitor on bracket over the helm. Will be using the Garmin...

    No transformer inverter/charger

I installed one of these on my sailboat a couple of years ago. I have been very pleased with it. I don't believe it is for marine use. I have it installed under the chart table. If it gets wet there, I'll have much more to worry about. https://www.iotaengineering.com/dls90.htm

    Redoing teak,epoxy, urethane, paint?

Um... Heat guns & scrapers? Nope. Gelled Methylene chloride (aka Zip Strip) applied with a chip brush, a coffee break, and then a putty knife PULLED (not pushed) with the grain. Repeat as necessary.

    12V panel- shower sump

"Just to be more annoying, shower sumps are a false convenience, they make your boat less boaty and more like your house, but sumps are a stinky toxic waste dump and a perfect showcase for how shitty Rule switches are." Yup. Both my boats (Herreshoff 38 Cat Ketch & Halvorsen 32 GC) are...

MD DNR “no recreational boating allowed”

Just a gentle reminder that all of the 46 governors in question took an oath of office. They read something like this: I, _______________, do swear, (or affirm, as the case may be), that I will support the Constitution of the United States; and that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance...

MD DNR “no recreational boating allowed”

I wish that the Constitution were absolute. A cursory review of Civil Asset Forfeiture will make short work of that statement. Remember Reagan's war on drugs? These state by state executive orders are nothing more than cheap and easy bullying tactics; there isn't a governor in this country...
