Firearms on the Great Loop Route laws and regs?

We carried handguns onboard while on the loop two years ago, just had to stay on the US side the whole way which our 5'7" draft dictated anyway. No issues whatsoever.

    Wet exhaust lift

My DeFever 49 RPH with 200hp Range 4 Perkins draws 5'7" and the exhaust hose is 26" from the top of the 12" high muffler. The mufflers are just below water line but not anywhere near 4' more like 8" to the top of the muffler and 18" to bottom of muffler, according to my measurements just taken.

    Defever 49 RPH Stability

That was DF49RPH not a 43 that sank and it was due to pilot error.

    Draining anchor lockers?

Ours drains to a fwd sump pump that is then sent overboard along with condensation from fwd AC units.

For Sale: 1983 Defever 49' Raised Pilot House

As a 49RPH owner I think your numbers are wrong, although that low hp needed would be nice for the knots you quote, it's higher than that by a long shot at least as standard.

Here We Go Again - Offer Accepted

Also your arch is like mine they are much heavier than you would think it will take at least three strong souls to lower it (mainly at the start until you reach the tipping point) onto the supports that are made of what ever you wish. Two can raise it but three is better. When we did the loop...

Here We Go Again - Offer Accepted

The split in the exhaust elbow of the gen is common if it hasn't been upgraded to a stainless unit. Cost is about $325 for the stainless elbow and a couple of hours to put the new one on if it's your first time It will also reduce your exhaust smell in the ER as well, not sure of the location...

    How about this bulbous bow?

Have you ever been on a bulbous bow boat or run one for a time in various seas. I disagree with your comments of keeping up with the big boys, the ones I have run have produced a softer ride with less hobby horsing than other designs with increased speeds from less power. Just my 2cents worth...

    Wet vs dry exhaust

After working and running dry stack boats and living and traveling on a wet exhaust boat I prefer the dry stack a heck of a lot more the space one gives up for the dry stack rising from the ER to the stack is negligible compared to the benefit for the engine. The engine does not know if it's...

    Winds wreck boats in Sarasota

All we had was a 60' cat break free from its mooring near Peanut Is and land on the beach, they were still trying to pull it off late this afternoon. A boat at our marina on Cypress Island lost its bimini but otherwise really wasn't that bad, lucky I guess.....

    Another steel fuel tank issue

Good previous comments dont bring on trouble before its due, if you get a leak deal with it, we just repaired a fiberglass tank today that had an issue and it was a 2008 model. There are many more options today than years gone by if an issue develops such as painting the inside of the tank with...

    Lectrasan Conundrum

We love our Electrascan used it on the loop in many many areas, now we have changed out to fresh water heads with the salt injection and life is still great just less salt water smells, as they say a good head is important to all onboard ?

Other: Fair asking price for genset

Just a thought you may not feel the need for a gen but the next buyer probably will when you sell it, yours is already installed I think it would be a big mistake to remove it, but to each their own

    Vacuflush

Check the motor carefully we rebuilt one the other week as the boat had six heads and the pump never turned off ended up being a small slit in the pump diaphragm and one head with a vacuum leak that a new switch corrected.

    Not using your AIS

We keep ours off except when our Navigation dictates it should be on like running the river systems or at night or well off shore but for hanging out on the ICW it stays off.

    Vacuflush

Replacing the vacuum switch is a very easy 15 minute job if the tank is easily accessible, a quick tip take a photo with your smart phone camera of the existing switch so you can make sure all 4 wires are reattached to the new switch correctly.

Also check with your transmission manual you may need to lock down the non operating shaft, while running on one engine. It all depends on your transmission setup and manufacturer.

    Arrest a Boat?

I think the term "arrest" is being mixed up with the correct term of "seizure". You can't arrest an object, you can seize it, you can sell it to satisfy a debt once the correct judicial processes have occurred. A person on the other hand can be arrested if it is believed they have committed a...

Pics of the sunk Florida Bay Coaster

The helm chair going overboard was told to me directly by the owner, who was operating her at the time he was waked. Believe it or not I don't think an owner would make up a story about his own boat in a negative way had it not been true. I wrote that comment 4 years ago and have travelled a...

    Mooring ball question...

My bow is 10' off the water and I found a great way to catch mooring balls single handed. Just prior to reaching the mooring field run a long line, (approximately the length of your boat)from your forward bow cleat down the side of your trawler on the outside of your vessel and tie it off at...

    Fresh water pump question

You should go to a VSP which is a variable speed pump, I changed ours after issue with the accumulator tank. The VSP means you can eliminate the accumulator tank and when multiple faucets are opened the pump adjusts automatically. They are a little pricy but works well, we use ours everyday as...
