    Bomar hatch problem?

Hatchmasters in Norwalk Connecticut ( hatchmasters.com) will rebuild them. They are not cheap, but they do great work. They rebuilt 2 hatches for my Nordic tug over the winter and I will reinstall them next month.

what makes a trawler suitable for ocean crossings?

You are right most trawlers, unless you want to spend several million dollars, are not suitable for crossing oceans. If you want to cross the Atlantic and you’re not in a hurry and don’t have several million dollars to spend get a sailboat.

    Outlets in Engine Room?

When I read the first sentence of your post I thought yeah, I have one and then I read the second sentence about it being a gas engine boat and said, NO WAY! I don’t have any particular experience, knowledge or skill in making this comment. Just My gut reaction, why take the chance.

    *Blue Water* Bahama cruising?

To my way of thanking Bluewater cruising or passage making means you have left the continental shelf behind. Incidentally, the water out there is more purple than blue.

    Bermuda Crossing on a GB42

I have Made the trip to Bermuda several times leaving from NewEngland, the Chesapeake and eastern Caribbean but always in a sailboat. I don’t have any experience in a GB so I can’t comment on its suitability. However, a few points to consider based upon my experience: 1. There is no such thing...

    Nordic Tugs 32, 1998

Curious about the missing stack. On my 2002 Nordic Tug 32 the hollow stack provides the headroom to go between the pilot house and salon

    Opinion- accepting a new boat

It turned out that way as the issue piled up, nothing compromising the boat, the costs piled up to the $10,000 and beyond the builder kept paying and never asked for the $10,000.

    Opinion- accepting a new boat

Bacchus, It s possible and I did it. I contracted for a new 44’ offshore sailboat from a US company to be built in mainland China. It was a fantastic boat that I sailed transatlantic and subsequent owners sailed both transatlantic and is now in the middle of a transpacific voyage. I visited...

    Opinion- accepting a new boat

Survey on new purchase Absolutely have a professional survey at delivery and a substantial hold back until you have personally sea trialed the boat for 2-3 months. It is amazing how many system issues you can have on a new boat. Don’t put yourself in the position of chasing suppliers for...

New, looking at Camano 31vs Nordic Tug 32

I’m a little late to this post but why should that stop me I looked at the three boats you mentioned in my search starting with the Eagle then the Camano and finally the NT. To be honest I wanted the NT from the beginning but didn’t want to pay for it. I started looking at...

    Found my trawler

Wifey B. Thanks. The NT 32 decision was the result of 2 years of searching for the boat that worked best for ME. Initially I thought Marks comment was simply a strongly held opinion which he is entitled to. The “boat handling” comeback proved me wrong.

    Found my trawler

You have to pick between side decks and interior space. You can’t have both in 32’. Dual pilot house doors give me good access to the fore deck and most importantly, the midship cleats. I rejected a very nice Camano 31 because it didn’t have any pilot house doors. As a single hander access to...

    Found my trawler

I am looking forward to finding the right RPM/KPH/GPH for me. But you are right about moving from sail to power. At 72 my ocean crossing days are over. Time to sit back and enjoy the ride but I will miss the thrill of the boat healing to a breeze and taking off.
