    Extreme Optimism

Pontoon boats are great party boats for lakes. If I end up living near a lake in retirement, I'll definitely have one. There will not be multiple 300HP OBs hanging on it!

Spring loaded emergency starter. Must have...

I was thinking that I'd get one of these and just get rid of all the wiring hassles to the starter. Simplify - house power only. But then I thought - what if I stall the engine while docking? So ... never mind.

What?! No forum for Trawler Racing?!

Ba-da-boom! :) No. But if I had, the rest of the crew would have been calling me, "The Kid." It was certainly a "senior" crew.

What?! No forum for Trawler Racing?!

A few years back there was an official trawler race, it may have been Newport News to Bermuda. I tried to get a spot as crew on a sweet little Seaton trawler but got bumped by much more experienced folks.

Spring loaded emergency starter. Must have...

I think only Jack Bauer can make those head shots in a running gun fight in the streets.:D

What a Ferrari should look like

I recently finished reading: "Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans" A quick and interesting read. Especially if you're a fan of Carroll Shelby and Ford GT40's.

What a Ferrari should look like

My favorite. But I can't decide between the coupe and convertible. Maybe I'll just have to have one of each!

At last I have my trawler!

Absolutely. I'm on the water because I want to be on the water. If I want to get somewhere in a hurry I'll either drive or fly!

    Interesting boats

Yet another beauty pops up on YachtWorld. Forward slanted windows, flybridge and a single engine. Plenty to argue about! <Big Sigh> So many toys, so few funds!

Saw this trailer when I went to see, "American Sniper." I told the wife, "I'm with the whales on this one."

Planes, Trains & Automobiles Thread Split

I think it's a sharp looking vehicle. Speaking of Aston Martin, you can certainly see their influence in some of the newer Fords. And, reading up on the new 'Stang, this old dog learned something new - flat plane crankshafts. I know they are old news and I've probably seen them before, just...

    End of an era

The site is in an absolutely spectacular location. Other than 100+ years of intense, heavy industrial pollution. So much pollution that when the issue of setting up a LNG port facility on the bordering Bear Creek was in play, there was a lot of concern about what sort of nasty stuff would be...

    End of an era

I live on a peninsula, across the Patapsco Rive is Sparrows Point, a massive and essentially dead, steel mill started in 1889. They just took down a 37 story, 11 million pound blast furnace. If you told the guys who worked there in the 50's and 60's that some Russian outfit would buy the place...

    The South

I don't remember where I found this, maybe even in this forum. But, it is a very interesting piece on how the US South is viewed. Very entertaining and informative. Rich Hall's videos on other topics are worth watching too. Rich Hall's The Dirty South - YouTube

    Origin of "flying bridge."

Me too! I just downloaded the book to my Nook. I'll get to that next after I finish "America's Bitter Pill: Money, Politics, Backroom Deals, and the Fight to Fix Our Broken Healthcare System", by Steven Brill. I'm only part way into it, but man, this is a longer running and bigger problem...

    The Vestas Wind wreck...

I don't recall what happened to the USS San Francisco's skipper after his boat ran into an undersea mountain, but I'm sure it was a "career limiting event".
