    On Air Conditioning...

I'm in the "go marine self contained" camp. We have a smaller Cruisair system in the forward part of the flybridge and it is ducted directly down into the salon. The return is in the middle and the output is split on either side. Works very well with that configuration and the ducting is very...

    Need shaft alignment

I suspect that coupler has been modified to add the socket head set screws, the square heads were likely original. I can't see how the additional ones would be needed with a split coupler which is fitted with a keyway and pin. Check the diameter of each end of the pin as I would think it is a...

    Lawsuit Rocks the Yacht-Sales World

I haven't been on BoatTrader website for a while but it looks very similar to Yachtworld now. They even have the same annoying popup to contact broker when you scroll down to the bottom of the page, very annoying.... I've tried everything to try and stop that popup with no success. If someone...

    New generator install

Consider adding a Gensep exhaust box if you have the room, it's a game changer in terms of sound. https://centekmarine.com/solutions/generator-wet-exhaust/ With a good sound enclosure you can hardly hear the generator run and can run it all night without disturbing your neighbors (or...

    Cruisair SMX ir Replacement

Before you get a replacement you might want to check that this isn't a wiring issue from the membrane switch to the control board. I can't remember what that looks like but if it's a ZIF connector then try reseating it and see if that sorts out the issue. It's a longshot but easy to try.

Hull washing workflow for larger boats

I still do the bucket and brush but a friend does the soap canon with Salty Captain and it seems to work well. It makes a lot of suds in the marina so I’m not a fan but may succumb at some point to trying it.

Rosario Resort (PNW / WA / Orcas Island) reportedly to cease most operations

We had a couple memorable trips to Rosario marina. Wonderful place to wander about with a nice hike up the hill to Cascade lake. The view from the point near the mansion is breathtaking and the wife and I decided would be where we would want to be married if we had known about it at the time...

    Best ice class explorer yachts

I want to see the kind of boat <63' that $25-30M buys. Does it have solid gold engines?

    Singing prop? Cutless bearing?

Sure is a weird phenomenon that's humbled even some seriously salty folks. Glad you got it sorted.

    Anodes crusty - still working?

As a general practice, I put a small bead of sealant (RTV) at the very base of the anode where it touches the brass plug. I don't put any on the threads. The idea here is to prevent any water from getting inside the threads and wasting the external threads of the zinc. This stops them falling...

Volvo TAMD41-A Long in the tooth or long running?

That's OEM Cummins cost, not aftermarket like Mr Cool, etc. I would go with aftermarket all day long, but this was for comparison to a Volvo OEM parts price. :)

Say "Hi" to Andy Dufresne and Red if you see them down there Peter. Rumor has it they're fixing up some old boat....

    Podcast - $5m salvage rights.

I read the book In Peril where this was documented. Pretty interesting case with some high value NASA cargo. Safe travels Peter.

Volvo TAMD41-A Long in the tooth or long running?

Cost for an OEM Cummins for the 6BTA is about $3,500 from Seaboard. Besides general maintenance items Volvo parts seem to be 2X+ that of Cummins.

    Grounding Video

I'm not sure why you are sticking up for the guy. I've watched a number of his videos and was struck by how little he knew about boating, mechanics, navigation etc. The entire premise of his channel seemed to be some sort of humble-brag. I'm not at all surprised he had an incident like this...

    replace a gfci outlet

My guess is whomever terminated those crimps trimmed a few strands to get the 14-16 AWG terminals to fit. Probably a good idea to redo those anyway with new yellow ones for the larger gauge. That yellow one looks to be solid core, not sure what that goes to but not ideal.

    fresh water flush

One additional benefit of setting up fresh water flushing is that when you do service on your raw water side such as changing out a zinc or impeller the water that comes out and runs all over the engine and engine room is fresh and therefore won't create corrosion. I would say if you flushed...

    fresh water flush

I found that my engines pull about twice what the hose can supply so I close the through hull when flushing. And yes, you need a way to ensure the line pressure is bled off to avoid blowing out a pump seal. In my setup that's what the check valve is for.

    fresh water flush

The point is to remove the salt water from all raw water filled cavities since salt water is a far greater conductor, therefore, electrolysis is dramatically reduced. This only takes a minute or two so no need to do it for 15 minutes. Our engines are far different from outboards and don't have...

    fresh water flush

I'm pretty religious about fresh water flushing. Now that I have all the raw water cooled parts in perfect shape I want to keep it that way. I had to replace an after cooler and that was an expensive item.... To prevent overpressure I plumbed a hose connection in the cockpit into the engine...

    Rudder Port Bolts Corroded away

Probably a good time to look over the bonding (ground wire) when addressing the bolts to ensure all the metal facing outside the hull is sorted. The lack of good bonding is likely the culprit for the fasteners wasting away.

Swift Trawler 35 Fiberglass/Gel coat cracking

If the hull is under warranty then I wouldn't touch them and make a claim. That is beyond cosmetic in my opinion. Beneteau needs to step up and deal with it. Good luck!

    Singing prop? Cutless bearing?

I would put my money on the props still singing, perhaps they didn't take enough off the leading edge. Doubtful a cutless will make that sort of noise unless it's running way out of concentricity.
