I am surprised(and nothing related to trawlers)

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is likely making Finland and do a lesser extend Sweden a bit nervous. Here is an article that suggest they may move towards joining NATO. That would be an interesting turn of events which would likely ratchet things up...

    Sabreline 36 Fast Trawler

This boat was on our short list but there were very few for sale when we were looking. Similar boat to the Albin Tournament Express 35 in terms of layout, but with superior build quality. They made two versions with and without an extended top over the cockpit. I'm going to guess engine...

    Electronics: improvement versus bling

Makes me wonder why someone doesn't offer a touchscreen PC for flush mounting directed to compete with MFDs? Seems there is a business to be had there and not particularly hard to do. We build touchscreens into our products and it's not brain surgery. I may have missed it but I haven't seen...

    Fresh Water Flush

Not so sure about that DDW. Lack of cooling of air input to the intake from the turbo could affect overall HP and therefore top end. At least that's what I understand the purpose of the AC is. BTW, I presume you resurfaced the o-ring surface on that housing as it looks like a potential for...

    Fresh Water Flush

Thought I'd post the mess I found when servicing my aftercooler. Although they were done in 2017 the boat sat for months by the PO without flushing. One of the cores required replacement and the other cleaned up. I will be on a 3 year schedule and will flush after every use if we are away...

What will the Marina War mean to you?

I'm in a Safe Harbor marina and they just bought the neighboring marina across the spit which was owned by Sunroad. They own one in South Bay as well which I wasn't aware of till now. They also just recently[purchased Shelter Island Boat Yard, one of the more reasonably and better run yards...

    Romsdal Trawlers

Wow! That is really impressive and a lot of beautiful boat for the money.

Where does one find a wash down tap?

I just replaced four of these on my boat, all Scandvik. They have quarter turn which I used for the cockpit and traditional spigots as shown above for the anchor washdown. Very good quality, I doubt I will ever have to service them and they look great.

    San Diego Harbor Question

Correct, this is commercial basin or what was once called America's Cup Harbor. My boat is in the next harbor to the east on Harbor Island. It's a very nice place to keep a boat but is right next to the airport so there is a lot of jet noise and soot to deal with.

    Thoughts?

I think you will be very happy with the Cummins. Lot's of good support, easy to work on and parts are reasonable. Spend some time on SBMAR.com for how to look after them and if you follow the advice they will give a long service life. Weak points are well documented and the required work...

How does getting older compare to expectations?

Interesting thread topic as I've been thinking about this much more these days. I'm not sure I ever gave getting old much thought till the past several years when both parents passed, each in their 90's. I watched them enjoy a long and fairly adventurous retirement and a steady slow down in...

    Cruise Ship Arrest

I was on Avalon in 2001 when the fairly new jet catamaran called the Catalina Jet running service for Catalina Cruises was impounded as the company had gone into bankruptcy while the boat was on it's way to the island. CC was losing a fight with upstart Catalina Express who had a fleet of...

Tanker ship sunk by mega-yacht near Nassau

Pretty minor damage for running into a 100' tanker @ 20 knots. That doesn't seem right. Agree eSysman jumped the gun on his report, he usually has pretty good intel but got it wrong this time. I do like his channel though and his views on the superyacht world.

Tanker ship sunk by mega-yacht near Nassau

eSysman does a good job of covering this incident, although incorrectly identified the tanker as a fishing vessel. https://youtu.be/X0kdJ3zitKA

    Christmas Parade Dangers

We've been doing the parade of lights thing for years. I've learned to put a man on the bow with good eye (made of coal) to make sure there are no barges in tow, or unlighted bouys, lobster pots, etc. He did a stellar job last weekend and we had no accidents. BTW, must be Covid related but...

    Fresh Water Flush

I have the Cummins engines so this is the reason I flush the engines. My aftercoolers are due for servicing so looking to keep the salt in them to a minimum until I do a tear-down in January and rebuild them. Even after, seems better for all internal components including the water pump to have...

    Fresh Water Flush

I followed the SBMAR approach but did my own adapters into the tops of the sea strainer. I drilled and tapped in a 1" nipple and silver soldered it to the bronze cap. Then Groco ball valve and quick disconnect. I'm sure I'm still getting some salt water pulled through since the water needs of...

    Engine room sound insulation

That was my post Dave which I deleted. I posted from soundproofcow.com where I bought it before but realized it wasn't flame retardant foam so although cheaper probably not recommended, at least for engine rooms.

    Twin Disc control parts?

Likely just a simple momentary switch so I'd expect you can find a suitable waterproof replacement. If you remove it chances are there are markings on the switch body and also a manufacturer so you can find the exact part or cross one over.

    Interesting boats

Yes, she is a Defever built in 1983, that is the boat. Got a picture of her today, she is now called Kamahele. Seems like a lot of boat for just under $1M. I would think deep pockets are needed to get her into shape, probably lose those DD's for something a bit more refined.

    Interesting boats

I think that boat is about $150K too high considering dated electronics and appliances. It does look to have been well kept but no engine room pics unfortunately. MAN engines of that flavor should be good but my guess is they are thirsty at the rate 15 knot cruise and parts would be pricey...

    Interesting boats

Some new electronics and an updated galley and that would make an awesome boat. I remember when they used to build those at the yard near the Sports Arena. I used to scrounge fiberglass off cuts from them and tried to get a job in the yard when I was a kid. Was really fun to watch the...

    Interesting boats

This boat just showed up in our marina last week. I have no idea what it is or where it's made, but it's beautiful in my opinion. Looks a lot like it was styled after the tuna seiners we used to have a lot of around San Diego before they all ran off to Panama. I want one....
