Victron sine wave problem while charging

Except if it was the outlet, why would having the charger on make a difference?

Victron sine wave problem while charging

So the problem is specific to a single outlet. Washer works fine off the nearby non-inverted water heater outlet with the genset running and charging, and also off an inverted outlet in the next cabin through an extension cord. I’m guessing it has to be something to do with the wiring in the...

Victron sine wave problem while charging

So the washer works fine with the generator loaded up with other draws or totally unloaded. It’s specifically having the charger connected that causes the problem. Also doesn’t seem to matter if it is bulk or absorb. Will try again when the batteries are fully charged and the charger is on float...

Victron sine wave problem while charging

The generator is a 21KW Onan. The charger is drawing about 2KW when the problem occurs, so it seems unlikely the generator is being overloaded. But I will try loading it up with the air con with the charging off and see what happens.

Victron sine wave problem while charging

I recently had both a new Victron Quattro inverter charger and a new Splendide washer/dryer installed on my boat. The other day when I went to do a load of laundry for the first time while running the generator, the washer wouldn’t start. I called Spendide’s (excellent) technical support, and...

    Starlink experience to consider

Confession, I have not been switching to mobile priority while underway at or below ten knots over the last several days and I have not had any problems with the service or nastygrams from Starlink about violating their policies. Now that I am up away from civilization, peak streaming hours are...

    AC / Heater won’t start

I saw that the other two units were working and missed that the pump was not going on when you activated this one. Agree that it’s probably the board.

    AC / Heater won’t start

Like yours my water pump is separate and feeds all four units on the boat. It’s working fine. The electrician narrowed it down to one of the coils that is part of the compressor. Still waiting for the HVAC guy to advise if it compressor can be replaced or if I need to install a whole new unit...

    AC / Heater won’t start

Having the same problem on one of my MarvAir units. Check (or have an electrician check) whether the leads from the board to the compressor are being energized before you replace the board. It could be that the board is fine but the compressor is shot, which is unfortunately my situation.

    Bolt cutters

I have an angle grinder but my current plan if push comes to shove is to just run out my entire rode to the bitter end and tie a buoy off to it in hope of a later intact recovery. I’ve got a spare anchor and prepared 250’ chain/rope rode in the lazarette just in case.

    Starlink experience to consider

The Starlink for boats page allows you to order the standard kit for $599 with the $150/mo regional roam plan “for stationary use in marinas throughout a continent.” With this plan you can opt in to priority data as you need it, but you are not allowed to use that terminal in motion. If you want...

    Starlink experience to consider

I have the flat high performance with the $150 regional roam plan. It works great at anchor or the dock in the PNW. I turn on the metered priority at $2 per GB when I am in motion or need guaranteed quality of service. Not sure what the problem is supposed to be here.

Who makes these double hulled kayaks?

We demoed these at Northwest Outdoor Center yesterday day and bought a pair of the ten footers. They are super stable but still move and track nicely through the water. Lightweight and easy to move and store. Compact for easy stowage. Thanks again for identifying these for us!

    Dealing with "chine slap"

The standard modification for the Nordic Tugs softens the chines forward to just below the waterline and blends into the hard chine aft to maintain semi planing performance. The final shape is a lot like what you see on a Fleming.

    Dealing with "chine slap"

This indeed solved the bow slap problem on our former Nordic Tug 37, but it set us back nearly $20k. Money well spent because my wife could not otherwise sleep on the boat.

Who makes these double hulled kayaks?

    Thank you!

Who makes these double hulled kayaks?

Saw these in a listing picture. Pinged the broker who didn't respond. My wife doesn't like tippy kayaks and these double hulled models seem like they might winners.

    Cockpit Winches

That's a clever solution. Not an option for me since that's where my built-in barbecue is located!

    Cockpit Winches

Even the regular ones won’t work with webbing? Well that’s unfortunate. Truth be told, I don’t like the Ultra stern reels and wouldn’t have bought one myself if it hadn’t come with the boat. The webbing doesn’t float, maxes out at 330’, and vibrates like a guitar string under tension in any sort...

    Cockpit Winches

I think the idea would be to place it near the stern cleats, and bend the lock line from the winch through the cleat to take the upward pull.

    Cockpit Winches

Thanks. For stern tying I probably could get by with single speed, since I really wouldn't be using the winch except in place of sweating the line taught after I have hauled most of it in. But I can see how two or more speeds would be useful for stern anchoring, with the caveat that I have as...

    Cockpit Winches

I do have a remote for the thrusters. Still awkward to use while tending the lines. I'm considering these despite the price for durability and corrosion resistance given the location. Not sure about sizing though. Will consult with the guys at Fisheries and report what they say.

    Cockpit Winches

One consequence of upsizing to our Maritimo 52 has been that we are more often on the wall going through the Ballard Locks. When locking up, I often find my stern getting kicked out beyond my ability to muscle the lines. If someone is rafted on to us, I have sometimes asked a neighbor to come...

    Stern Tie rope length?

I had one of these made up for me at Fisheries Supply the other day. It has a smaller and a larger metal ring anchor spliced onto each end with a webbing sleeve over the line connecting them. I speced a locking carabiner that will pass through one ring but not the other to attach to the end of...
