Information on going Intercoastal Waterway from Cape May to Atlantic City

I've done it. Can't think of any pros. North of Atlantic City is fine inside.

Slow Hand 2023 To Lake Superior and back

I can suggest a few stops on the north side of the lake, but assume you'll stay in the US. Weather looks great.

    Cruising the Trent Severn Waterway

Sorry, it's Big Chute that's down. Parks Canada advises that Lock 44 – Big Chute Marine Railway remains inoperable. Boaters looking to transit through Big Chute are encouraged to slow their pace to allow for repairs to be completed. Specialized contractors and the Parks Canada maintenance team...

    Cruising the Trent Severn Waterway

Yes, quite right Ted. I get the two mixed up in my memory... I take it back. I'm slowly making my way north now. Kirkfield Lock is closed for emergency repairs.

    Jubilee on the Triangle Loop

Sounds like you're set up for a great cruise. I've been hanging out in the Thousand Islands and Bay of Quinte area the past couple of weeks. This is still one of my favourite areas on the route, but it's all great. A Parks Canada pass gives free docking along pretty much the entire Canadian...

    Raymarine Autohelm 6000

Yep. And both easy to remedy, even for DIY. You can find parts easily.

Replacing ladder with stairs 1978 34MK1

I had a sistership. I've never seen it done, and really don't think it's feasible. I found the ladder very secure mostly because of the relatively narrow opening through the hard top. Once up a couple of steps the upper body is secure in the opening. Is your concern pet access?

Need the reduction ratio from the transmissions as well.

    Me too.

Slow Hand 2023 To Lake Superior and back

I'd be tempted to slow down and let the first bunch go. Maybe arrive there Friday evening. Assuming that's opening day.

    Remove door for roller replacement

I think Gdavid nailed it. The whole frame settles over time on those boats. The FB floor is large and massively built - heavy even before waterlogged :-)

    Trawler wanted for loop

The original Mainship 34 is a good inexpensive choice. There's one recently posted for sale here at $25k in MI. I looped in one and used 1500 gallons to do 6000 NM. AGLCA has costing tools for looping. For most people daily dockage is the biggest cost.

Bow Thruster only working to Port

My Vetus thruster had the same issue recently. The cause was a bad connection in the control wires near the thruster unit. Check the relays and connections for the control circuit. My guess is that the problem is there rather than in the thruster itself.

Will the rise of AI replace us all??

Do a search for Geoffrey Hinton. There is lots of recent free coverage.

    Hatteras 48' LRC Air Conditioning.

If you're sticking to the OEM arrangement check the wiring and breaker size. You should be able to infer the original sizing from that, and it might be wise to size replacements to use existing wiring.

    Northern Loop this spring

Fortunately there are no tides or significant currents. You'll have it all to yourself until you get to Parry Sound. And it's almost all sheltered from the lake. If you're timid stay outside until you get to Pointe aux Baril. The main small boat passage is relatively easy from there all the...

    Northern Loop this spring

There are a couple of tight spots, but it's a great trip. I like the passage behind Philip Edward Island to Beaverstone Bay heading south from Killarney. Bad River is a great spot to stop over. Just south of there you can follow the small boat channel to Pointe aux Baril, then all the way...

Cruising North on the Illinois Waterway next week!

I did the same trip early last year. Many buoys were missing or out of place. Don't be afraid to talk to vessels and locks on VHF, or call locks by phone in advance. Also make sure you understand the one whistle/two whistle passing instructions. I've done the trip several times and haven't...

Why Move from Sailboat to Trawler?

I went from sailboats to a trawler/power boat 7 years ago to travel rivers and waterways. I'm now on my second trawler, and have recently been trying to make the case to myself for swapping back to sail. It's a tough case to make. I'm tempted occasionally by motorsailors, but it's very rare...

    Motorbike on a trawler

I'm off the dock with my Silverwing. It was surprisingly easy after an aborted attempt to have it facing aft. I'm traveling the Trent Severn and want to be able to get back and forth between boat and home about 100-200 miles away. This should do nicely.

Willard just posted in Classified Section

I realize now that I shouldn't have posted in response to the ad posting. Does that crown icon indicate that you're a moderator? If so feel free to delete or move my comment here. I'd love to toodle around BC in that boat.

Houston TX to Palmetto FL Stop Recommendations

I loved every bit of the one trip I did from Morgan City east, and explored lots of the local bayous W of the river. You can see pics and where I anchored starting here: http://boatingadventures.ca/2018/12/07/staying-local/

Houston TX to Palmetto FL Stop Recommendations

A couple of years ago I tied to the wall in front of the parking lot for the Boomtown Casino and went in for their buffet dinner. Maybe a mile before the lock.
