    Ditch bag recommendations?

I carry my small booster pack next to the ditch bag. With a couple of usb ports it'll run my portable devices for a long time.

    Which Motor?

I'm sure the dealer will condemn it. Sorry for your misfortune. I have a 2023 Tohatsu 20 HP. Have had Suzukis and Yamahas and lots of respect for both. Wanted EFI and weight was important too for me. Most importantly local good dealer had in stock at reasonable prices when I went shopping...

    Searching for a calculator

Often manufacturers will provide prop demand curves that show consumption by RPM. If your boat is propped properly and a semi-displacement design these are very close in my experience. Just tell us what kind of boat and motor(s) you have :-) Sent from my moto g play (2021) using Trawler Forum...

    Navionics Advice?

My guess is that the power management system powers down the GPS chip to reduce power consumption. I've had this happen on Android devices. Not an Apple user, but check power management and location services settings.

    Inverter Install basics

I think you need to identify what purpose the inverter serves. On my last boat an inverter served the AC refrigerator and two AC outlets. It had a passthrough switch built in on the A/C side. That's pretty simple. Even simpler is an inverter that you plug a couple of extension cords into...

    Stabilization for a GB32

On my Mainship 34 MY I found the ride got much better with tabs down and more throttle. Bow down leaving a big wake was wet and fuel thirsty, but the ride was rock solid compared to a couple of knots slower. It's worth experimenting beyond normal cruise speed to see how much it helps.

    Another Broker Question

Those that are are unlikely to share the sale with another broker. I think it's uncommon these days.

When a SmartPlug goes for a swim

I don't think there is a problem with the male plug on 30a that plugs into the pedestal. The common issue is with the female plug on the boat end. There is no way in my experience to bring that connection up to snuff if you're utilizing full capacity. SmartPlug does make a 50a service, but...

When a SmartPlug goes for a swim

I replaced my boat end with the smart plug after my shore power receptacle melted down and almost started a fire. The NEMA design is problematic. I was on my second or third cord, so knew about scorched cords, and was careful to have it well connected and supported. I was living aboard over...

    Swim Platform - MS 400

I have to recant my previous testimony. After following the discussion I was curious enough to track down pictures on the internet of the boat I saw, and its platform looks like all the others :-). Sorry. It was the first 400 I'd looked at up close. Lots to like. Sent from my moto g...

Fuel distribution panel allows air intrusion

Ted, I think the OP's manifold is two compartments. If you think of it that way it's set up much the same way as your pic and functionally equivalent. I could be wrong, but it makes sense I think. I'm guessing the OP didn't discover the valve combo to make it work. Hope they come back. Sent...

Fuel distribution panel allows air intrusion

What do you mean by "upper distribution panel"? I'm assuming that the manifold is partitioned between supply and return. If true and the pump circuit is closed the only fresh fuel is going to come through the "auto suck" port. Seems to me that this is the port that should feed the second...

    Stabilization for a GB32

More throttle may help. That's my usual defense against being tossed around by large wakes. Form stability on a SD boat typically increases as you go above displacement speeds. Sent from my moto g play (2021) using Trawler Forum mobile app

    Bow or Stern Thruster

It gets me when able bodied people are led to believe that bow and stern thrusters are necessary for getting a 30' boat in and out of a slip. Need is a very subjective term. I guess we all have things that set us off. But this isn't relevant to the OP's question - picking one, bow or stern...

    Bow or Stern Thruster

I'm hanging around in Ontario cottage country this summer, and have seen increasing numbers of boats with external bow thrusters like these guys https://sideshift.com/products/monohull-bow-stern-thrusters/ I'm still not sure I'd want one, but they seem to be meeting the need for decent...

    Bow or Stern Thruster

Can you turn the other way? A stern thruster would undoubtedly help with the challenge you describe. A bow thruster might help as well. My thoughts echo Ted's. The recommendation on training is a good one. You shouldn't view it as a challenge or slight. My own experience with a few...

When a SmartPlug goes for a swim

I think I'd be comfortable cutting a foot or three off and installing a replacement plug. When I went to Smart plug I lopped off the scorched NEMA(?) plug and used the old cord. But yeah, I wouldn't continue to rely on it as is.

    Fuel Polish MS 400

I suspect this is a boilerplate recommendation. Fuel gets polished as soon as you start operating. Your regular filters and separators *should* be able to deal with it, but extra vigilance is called for. I'd be particularly alert for water early on, and crud the first time you're out in...

I need some help and advice on Radar mast placement and radar operation

I need some help and advice on Radar mast placement and radar operation

One last thought on arch design - it might be helpful to measure how much your bow comes up at cruise speed. Then consider designing the arch such that the platform is level at cruise speed, sloping forward at rest. Alternatively you can shim the radar, of course. Just throwing out the idea...

I need some help and advice on Radar mast placement and radar operation

I've gotten explicit requests to make sure the radar was off in several commercial locks. The staff don't want to be directly in front of an active array. Understandable with commercial equipment, though my 18" isn't much of a threat. Sent from my moto g play (2021) using Trawler Forum mobile app

I need some help and advice on Radar mast placement and radar operation

I understand what you're getting at here. First off, the bimini interferes with the radar less than you might think. But more importantly, the beam width is narrow. Garmin suggests keeping a range of 25 degrees clear, 12.5 on either side of horizontal. The specified beam width for the 18...

Inverter for when main engines are running

That 'anyone else' is a bit broad, no? I'm skeptical on how long an Ocean 53 is going to keep going running everything from the 12v system. It's not going to be business as usual. I'm no fan of gensets, but for the OP a second genset could provide unlimited full failover. Getting similar...
