Dinghy Search for A Trailerable Trawler

I'd suggest measuring the front deck. It might sit happily upside down in front of the pilot house. I've carried inflatables that way on sailboats. If it fits it should be easy to secure. I have a Highfield 340UL and have been very impressed with it. If you could manage a 290 I think you'd...

    Updating my electronics units

Do you have a heading sensor? A lot of functionality gets much better with a good heading input, particularly in currents.

    12,500 miles still going

Congrats. I went platinum about a year ago. It's a nice pennant to have earned. I'm heading for Chicago today, and down the rivers in a couple of weeks, after the rush. There are about 300 loopers that have queued up waiting for the locks to reopen. I guess they've started passing you this week.

    House Batteries

The idea that the BMS exists in order to stop the charging, and that it's normal or acceptable to charge until the BMS is triggered.

    Boat Dimension - Newbie Question

You can also join the AGLCA. They're supportive of concerns like these, and hundreds of successful loopers have done it in a variety of boats. I'm sure any mainstream design could be discussed there. This isn't an unusual concern.

    House Batteries

Um, no. There is lots of solid advice here. Let's not ruin things by propagating YouTube nonsense.

Finally got the new big lithium batteries

I'm sure they'll give good service. I have 2x300ah and have been very happy. Nice to see features and price improving, and a 1c charge/discharge rating is impressive. I paid about the same for my dumb batteries 18 months ago.

    Boat Dimension - Newbie Question

Masts come down. You only need to be concerned with permanent structure. The 15 ft section is the western Erie Canal, and it can be bypassed by entering Canada. Other than that with 19 ft you can go pretty much anywhere. Lots of mid-size trawlers like GB 42, Monk 36 etc travel the western...

    Intro

Very pretty. Congratulations and welcome. As it happens I just went by Vinnette Boat Works this afternoon in Escanaba. I may visit by shore to see what they've got in the yard. Lots of great boats have come out of there.

    Trailerable Trawler List

Sure, but boats mentioned earlier like the Acadia and Cape Dory are not dissimilar. If all you want to do is travel at 6 - 10 mph they'll do it happily and handily.

    Prairie 29 Puffin

Love the color. I'm sure she'll find a good home. Any idea what the top speed is? [emoji3]

    Trailerable Trawler List

The Rosborough was designed in Nova Scotia as a work boat, and lots of them had 50 hp outboards. The 246 grew out of that hull. I wouldn't call it a planing boat. It's a direct descendant of the semi-displacement lobster boats.

Faster trawler than just hull speed but seaworthiness?

There's a nice Krogan Express 49 that just came on the market... https://www.yachtworld.com/yacht/1999-krogen-express-49-9019699/

Saga was the other, but I see you've got that. Europe is full of small slow diesel cruisers, but few have made it to the US. Rereading the thread, I think you've been too quick to dismiss outboards. Boats like the Rosborough would be quite happy with a modern 60-90 hp outboard. I have a...

    Late season Maine Migration advice

Agreed. That's a fork I'd choose based on expected conditions. Watch out for current against wind going up the Delaware. The waves can kick up.

Back Cove and Sabre come to mind.

You can run Nebo from a phone, which can use SL for internet. There's no need to install their hardware to use the service.

7 Years of Costs of Cruising and Living on a Boat

Don, thanks for sharing. I've been living aboard mostly and traveling pretty much continuously for 5 years, and don't do detailed tracking of most expenses. My question coming into this was mostly around the total cost of ownership for the boat. For me lots of expenses like eating out and...

    Late season Maine Migration advice

It's certainly doable. I've left Maine twice in mid-November to head for Florida. First time was in a 40' sailboat and was OK but too cold. We missed maybe three days to weather, and had snow on deck in Newport. Didn't warm up until SC. The second time was in my current PH trawler, and was...

40 something foot yachts - engine variables

I won't disagree. But that criteria pretty much takes you to motors like the Ford Lehman. The list of boats less than 35 years old with twins that hp is vanishing small.

Recommendations for a Boat tracking/log app

I've used Spot for a few years, off and on. It seems to provide similar functionality as InReach. Both are popular with hikers and adventurers. https://www.findmespot.com/en-us/products-services/spot-gen4

If you want small diesel, the Albin has lots of Scandinavian cousins. There are a few Windy 26 trawlers around Eastern Canada. I also saw a Sisu 22 for sale recently that had a 30 hp yanmar and looked really sweet. Can't find the ad, so guess it sold.

    Fuel Vacuum Question

I have the same unit as the OP, and on mine the guage doesn't have a drag indicator. Vacuum is going to be highly dependant on fuel flow rate. There is little to be gained in checking when there is no load on the engine. My strategy is to run up to maximum cruise speed for an hour or so every...
