    Coronial Inquiry-Sinking of Eliza 1

Doesn`t seem there was any attempt to disguise the name, it was openly referred to by the Coroner by name. One task for his staff was notifying its broker and owner of the Findings so they might consider their position. The immediate clue something had happened to it was 22 hours on the rebuilt...

    Interesting boats

https://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/power-boats/linden-kotter-65/299587 Dutch built, refitted locally. An attractive boat with fuel filtration aplenty! But those fingermarks on the stainless steel fridge/freezer drawers are a blot on the pristine landscape.

    Coronial Inquiry-Sinking of Eliza 1

Imagine 1 was enough to realise it was another boat seen on the hard. Others show a keel very different to a normal Halvorsen. The 44 must have spent quite some time out of the water after visiting Balmoral Beach, there must be pics of it. FWIW, I wondered if the design deficiencies could have...

    New to solar

Unclematt,I did mine some years ago, with no training in electrics. They worked. You need to mount an inch above a flat surface to allow cooling. You can buy mounting brackets but I made brackets out of teak and aluminum angle, and attached the teak to the deck using Sikaflex polyurethane, to...

Weaver style davit question: can I leave the outboard on?

We used the Italian Ceredi brand, mainly because our second hand but unused inflatable came with Ceredi pads and their fittings, attached already. No complaints.

    Greeting from Sydney Australia

"A few sizes larger" can add up to a big anchor. I tend to think the mfr will be conservative in specifying an adequate size, and of course wants to sell you as much anchor as they can. Then the retailer might suggest upsizing for safety too. I wouldn`t go up more than one size unless there was...

Ray McCormack Sunseeker 54 delivery to Hawaii currently underway

Curious,I searched Sunseeker boats are built in Dorset UK, but the company is Chinese owned since 2013, builds about 150 boats a year. Could have sworn they had a factory in Ispwich UK we saw last August, it must have been another brand. Best of good luck to both owner and deliverer.

    My last post

Unfortunate but understandable. Scammers may create a profile of people on social media from their posts, it`s an ever present risk. Mods do a good job on political posts but Fletcher is probably right about politics creeping in during the US election. Even here we hear far more about it than...

    Coronial Inquiry-Sinking of Eliza 1

I see the issue Jeff F and Serene raise. Short of employing an NA, I suppose we have to use our commonsense. You`d hope that the builder did NA tests(not sure Eliza 1 had any) and designed the boat with a margin so that adding say 10kg of equipment or a fat friend to the FB did not "upset the...

    Ed, Golden Star 38

Welcome Aboard. I hope Jasper is kind to you and perhaps the Golden Star you have in mind. I`ve no direct knowledge, it seems a fairly typical sundeck style semi displacement "Taiwanese Trawler". They are usually rated as a "coastal cruiser" in suitable weather, rather than ocean crosser.Your...

    Coronial Inquiry-Sinking of Eliza 1

The contrasting views above support the Coroner having the assistance of what appear to be expert testing by a qualified person carrying out a range of tests. The idea that some abbreviated form of test involving some people jumping on the gunnels would have sufficed rather than the test regime...

    Utility budget for coffee?

Roasting green coffee beans at home is a huge step. I`m happy just grinding (pre roasted) beans shortly before using the espresso machine, both onboard and at home.

    Trawler Mast to lift Dinghy?

Sounds a good idea. Tried the PO for the one he removed? You could ask why he removed it.

    Sitting in my dinghy

It`s accepted people working facing a production line and lifting items off, feet staying in place, to pack items into a box, get back issues due to the repetitive rotational twisting. That`s what you are doing, albeit fixed in place. It could cause or aggravate disc issues, much like golf.

    Utility budget for coffee?

I have an original version of this stovetop model by Atomic at home, long replaced by espresso machines, might give it an overhaul, they sell for up to $1000 now and parts are even available.

    Greeting from Sydney Australia

Anchor discussions can be fatal to a thread, but at some point try searching the well regarded Aussie anchor mfr SARCA, based in Melbourne, with a view to updating the ancient CQR/plough.The owner, Rex Francis, may look kindly on a direct purchase by a TF member.

    Sitting in my dinghy

Your back problem could come from the twist, you sit sideways/athwart on the tube but your head and upper back needs to face forwards to look where you are headed. Try sitting at an angle forward on the tube?

Supporting both Li and FLAs from one charger

Equalization/Desulfation uses a voltage of around 16 volts in a 12v battery. Also involves "pulsing" to coerce the sulfur off the plates. My previous boat had an Equalization program in the Solar Controller. Toggled on, it equalized once a month. With FLAs,you could tell it had run by a drop in...

    Greeting from Sydney Australia

Welcome Aboard! I`m with RTF, hasten slowly. From your posts you are in a learning phase, though arn`t we all. You don`t need a Maritime license to operate a boat<10 knots but yes, you should get one, you will learn a lot. My guess is your lovely boat is a well converted fishing trawler but it...

Aircraft buffs, Southern Cross Replica Restored

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-12-08/southern-cross-replica-aircraft-flies-again/103190022 It`s a faithful just restored replica of the first aircraft to cross the Pacific. I`d rather do it in a B787.

    Coronial Inquiry-Sinking of Eliza 1

I noticed that, one word too many? Maybe with the stabilizers on. The other problem is the words "Coastal Cruiser" in the name of the boat, despite the brokers effectively "protected waters" statement. I have to say, looking at the advert, it`s an "awkward" looking boat. Here`s a photo of an...

    Coronial Inquiry-Sinking of Eliza 1

Coroners here essentially do Death, and Fire, Inquests. I`ve only been involved in a few Inquests. You`ll note the evidence was taken over 2 days with Findings delivered on day 2. It`s apparent there was a lot of work done by the Coroner before the actual hearing, in a way it`s an administrative...

    Coronial Inquiry-Sinking of Eliza 1

It`s advertised with Naiad stabilizers fitted( plus a rebuilt engine and new genset!), the broker seems to prudently suggest it is ideally suited to cruising the largely protected waters of Pittwater and the Hawkesbury River.

    Coronial Inquiry-Sinking of Eliza 1

Island Gypsy owners should not be concerned. My IG36 was hit by a large wave while changing course, it was thrown almost on its beam ends, no green water came onboard and it promptly recovered from the roll. The issue is,is simple terms, modifications made the boat top heavy. I`ve been on an...
