There`s a local bar and restaurant with lawn bowls greens attached. Originally it was a lawn bowls facility with a bar and restaurant attached. It`s called "The Diddy". Why I wondered, maybe an obscure English traditional pub name, like "The Dog and Duck" or "The Slug and Lettuce". Turns out...

Might a flush (or 2?) during the 10-15 minute visit help? A sort of "intermediate" flush before the final one.

New Fleming 85 hull, designed by Norman Wright, Queensland

Not being a Queenslander,I thought Norman Wright were boat builders from past days, but no, a very active designer and builder to this day. Being chosen to design the Fleming 85 is a significant achievement. Here`s their website which tells their enviable history and current endeavors...

    Interesting boats

Interesting Price This 2015 Palm Beach(GB) is priced at $2,500,000 AU = around $1.65M US. Gorgeous boat, but a lot of $$. https://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/power-boats/palm-beach-motor-yachts-50-eurella/307849 Photos are taken on the beautiful Broken Bay/Hawkesbury River we...

    Nordhavn 40...lack of side decks

It`s "walkaround" vs "clingaround" in my experience. The trade off for walkaround is less interior space. I`ve had both, prefer walkaround, but there is normally still access, it`s best to maintain a handhold for safety. In an otherwise suitable boat it should not be a deal breaker, if there...

    Mast or arch?

That`s very kind, and I do see the resemblance. I`ve attached the listing for an early(sold) Clipper 40, the pics may be of interest. They are well regarded here for their sea going capability. Unfortunately Clipper has recently gone out of business...

    Mast or arch?

Great looking boat! The Australian "Clipper 40" which I suspect has related manufacturing origins, often cantilevers a dinghy davit off the aft end of the FB, preserving use of the FB. I`ve always called the "radar arch" the "roll bar', but that`s more applicable for "sports boats" than trawlers.

Sleipner/Side Power Thruster Failures in new units

Not sure it matters, but easy to see James E is located in Broken Bay 20NM north of Sydney Australia. Beautiful area, with easy access to sailing inshore and offshore and excellent protected cruising grounds. Hope James keeps posting info on finding a solution and, welcome aboard! My boat came...

Sleipner/Side Power Thruster Failures in new units

FWIW my bow thruster battery is an Optima Bluetop AGM, replacing similar. I thought the thruster was weak but it was the battery, demonstrated by the huge change in performance.

Sleipner/Side Power Thruster Failures in new units

The closely located battery serving our bowthruster is fed from a main bank. It worked poorly until the battery was replaced with a start type battery specially recommended for thrusters. Thrusters are hungry albeit for short periods, it seems a distant house supply is not effective, a localized...

    Alternative to varnish

IMO Cetol is effectively a varnish. If you want to oil, use Deks Olje(#1). First application is a saturation process of application and reapplication over several hours. After saturation, it just needs reapplication as needed, a wipe over every 3 months or so. You can get a gloss finish(#2) to...

    Dinghy on swim platform

On my previous boat we kept it on the aft FB. Even had a little St.Croix crane my partner hated, which needed a lot of reinforcing to prevent deflection. On this boat, despite expectations, not enough FB space for it. View astern is obviously compromised. And it looks ugly. But,we avoided...

Sorry to hear that. I found the IG to Integrity transition so easy. Took me 3 years to find a replacement for the IG,incl a failed contract on an Integrity 426. My exhausts exit either side just fwd /on the "corner" of the transom. The IG were in the transom. I`m unaware of any issues arising...

    Dinghy on swim platform

I store a 2.6M inflatable on the swimstep using the Italian brand "Ceredi" snap davits. The holdoffs are Weaver, Ceredi is because I bought an unused 2nd hand dinghy of the same brand I had before, and it came with Ceredi gear. We store the outboard separately. Dinghy on swimstep is an...

    Nice to meet you all

Either should work and that gives you more to choose from. Good luck selling! Choose carefully buying. Diesels usually have a much longer lifespan than gas engines.

    Battery Switch Position while Running

I readily understand the "when drawing, engines off" setting advice, though I prefer to draw both moderately than one heavily, and have not experienced starting issues. On the 'engines running alternators charging" advice, I see the reasoning but remain troubled by the coinciding advice of the...
