Listen to speakers before you buy. There can be surprises on best sound as against brand/price expectations.

    8D starting battery replacement

IG copied lots of GB things, incl the 8D in a box. Despite the remove/refit weight issue, another 8D using existing wiring makes sense. Sometimes you can slide the box out to improve access. Plan how you are going to do it, both remove and refit. We 2 guys have done it a number of times with...

    Any Hiptimco Owners Out There

Welcome Aboard Hawkesbury Aussie! We berthed at Brooklyn for 8 years before moving to Bobbin Head. Gotta love the Hawkesbury, we`ve been on Dangar, as well as passing many times. Btw, Hermano`s home port is Seattle, west coast USA.

I think Don might have liked this. Old song, written by a young Lee Ritenour, sung by a young Phil Perry, "Is It You" never gets old:

Manatee needs a new engine, what to do?

The Cummins emblazoned genset solenoid I bought from Cummins in Australia, made in China. It worked fine, so quality was ok. Identical to a back up one I bought on ebay for 1/5th the Cummins price, so the margin is ok too, for Cummins..

Loss of SV Rum Truffle, Bahia del Sol bar, El Salvador

Best not underrate local knowledge. Someone who really knows a bar could know from experience (hopefully not grounding:)) that, for example,a week of south easterly will shift the channel in "X" direction. But confirmation with a good sounder is a sound idea. The entrance to Lake Macquarie from...

    Lithium Ion Tool Battery Fires

I`m seeing plenty of reports of these causing fires here, a multiple daily occurrence, burning houses, garages, apartments. Worst culprits seem to be batteries powering electric bikes and scooters(? food delivery bikes). Modifications and non specified chargers may be involved, especially from...

    oil pan replacement concerns

What engine is that? Name looks to end in a Honda style "A" but that seems unlikely. If the engine sat in salt water long enough to rust out the oil-pan, how often do you think the owner or someone else looked in the engine compartment to check the oil, and all the other things we all check, at...

And probably without the aid of specs or cataract surgery! Remember, aging is usually better than the alternative.

Need to update my boat stereo.

The audio cassette is (allegedly) making a comeback, I saw a recent report people are searching for used ones, like for vinyl. You could load your CDs onto cassettes:),(a time consuming process). Or you could just buy a good CD player.

    Predator 3500 generator

Might be a great genset but why call it a "Predator"?. What`s it going to predate on? Your electrics?

    Low voltage auto start gen

The genset should have its own close located battery. To avoid its only source of charge being its own alternator, it could be fed via a combiner, from the house battery or better still, its own small dedicated solar panel with basic regulator. I would not want an auto start genset.

Loss of SV Rum Truffle, Bahia del Sol bar, El Salvador

How does Bill determine the "safe" course? I know it`s no pilot operated bar crossing and things are different down there but an understanding of choosing the safe(er) course, and how and when it is checked would help instill confidence. Local knowledge is vital for an ever changing bar...

Hydraulic backup on a Perkins generator?

Be glad you have a Muir vertical which accepts a sailboat winch handle. The more common horizontal Muir is a lot harder to deal with in a windlass failure. Manual chain retrieval led to some foul language, I bought leather gloves to keep onboard after that, and had Muir rebuild the windlass. I...

    Interesting boats

It reads like a FSBO advert. As the Admiral is happy enjoying the boat, best you do too :), but I suspect you enjoy new fields of boating. It`s a big 12KVA genset but the boat is over 50 ft. The interior refit had me wondering if there`d been some "mishap" but the ER equipment looks original...

    Interesting boats

Posting this 2006 Meridian 490 because of the striking resemblance to the much admired earlier Bayliner 4588 etc series: https://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/power-boats/meridian-490-pilot-house/308805. I thought the Bayliner had gone without trace but no, it lived on in the...

Loss of SV Rum Truffle, Bahia del Sol bar, El Salvador

If nothing else comes out of this awful event the PFD discussion might help someone. In my state, NSW, Australia, it is a strict requirement of crossing a bar that everyone wear a PFD. Mostly it`s smaller boats <20ft going(returning after)fishing, often open types that regularly cross bars but it...

    Interesting boats

Well, these French Secret Service sailors ones were. They escaped on a sailboat after blowing up and sinking Rainbow Warrior, killing one crew in New Zealand. Captured, convicted, but repatriated not long after in a Govt to Govt deal. You may not like Greenpeace but the audacity was mind...

Solar Panel Integrity when not in use

I`ve only ever covered mine to put them to sleep while working on wiring. When not running a fridge I did not connect shorepower, the panels fed the batts. Over 10 years I saw no obvious degradation of the panels. Sydney is temperate, but 35C summer days are getting more common.
