    Kha-Shing - feedback and transport

Running from SF to San Pedro is a great trip. Plenty of harbors to day hop to and sit out any weather. You will also have current and wind to your back. Should be a good time.

Will Prowse testing drop in Lifepo4 over current protection. Quite surprising.

I agree, factory support is going to be one of the most important features to purchasing a battery. While you can buy really cheap LFP’s off of Amazon I chose a company that answered the phone and could give me technical answers. That company was Eco-worthy. One year in I am satisfied...

    Changing to LiFePo Batteries

Was that verbal or a document I can look up? Just curious. Eco-worthy wanted me to do equal lengths to a bus bar but showed a 4’ bus bar and didn’t care about unequal attachment on the bus bar. Their second recommendation was for equal length path among all batteries. This is not meant to...

    Changing to LiFePo Batteries

Bob, if your set up was FLA I would say you wired your batteries incorrectly. If it was FLA I would recommend you move your house positive to the opposite end of the bank. I am not sure if it is as big an issue with LFP. Just curious what others think. I look forward to hearing about your...

    Oil Samples Worthwhile?

OA 42’s in general are great boats. They came most often with CAT 3208TA 425 hp or DD 6-53 at 450 hp. Both engines are high strung. Both engines would last forever if traveling at 10 kts. Both engines are trouble if pushed above 350 hp for considerable portions of there usage. Dd 6-53 are...

    Deal before survey?

With a long distance purchase brokers are more upfront about the deficiencies. They don’t want to risk being sued for travel expenses because they failed to mention obvious deficiencies.

    Oil Samples Worthwhile?

There is risk. I think minimal. I also invest in stocks, most of the time I win but sometimes I loose. I bought my current boat without an oil analysis. I felt the risk was low. I also knew if I was wrong it only meant I would spend some money that I already had. If you are borrowing to...

    Deal before survey?

Brokers are either trying to up sell you or this boat has failed an inspection. Broker’s don’t like it when deals come unraveled during survey. They to have time and money invested and don’t like to see either of it wasted 0n hidden deficiencies. Good surveyors are sensitive to this and will...

    Oil Samples Worthwhile?

If it’s any help, some one doesn’t normally spend money on risers and heat exchangers for a bad engine.

    Oil Samples Worthwhile?

A 3208 375 hp is pretty bulletproof. The 3208TA 425 hp had some issues. A lot depends on how hard the engine was used. An OA 42 could have easily spent its life traveling at 25+ knots or it could have spent Its life traveling at 10 knots. A one shot oil analysis is only going to tell you if...

    Crusader 350 ci

I am guessing you have velvet drive transmissions. If I am correct you have warped clutch plates due to excessive heat or your gear lube has been replaced with seawater due to a cooler failure. Sadly the answer is the transmission will need an overhaul. Fortunately, it’s extremely expensive...

    Blind fly bridge

I don’t fully understand your issue so I maybe sending you down a dead end. Try researching nut inserts.

    Boating and Cannabis

I would ignore that last post. It is some sort of trolling. First and only message ends up promoting cannabis and boating.

1996-1998 mainship motor yacht stuffing box

I would be buying 3/8 plus a size bigger and smaller. Packing is way cheaper than the fuel you will use in a 5 hour drive.

Spectra water maker fresh water flush module valve position

Emerald marine are good people. Spectra is a good watermaker. Once you get it debugged it will be very dependable. Notice I never used the word inexpensive with spectra.

Spectra water maker fresh water flush module valve position

The Spectra Newport 400-c has both a manual and an auto flush system. When it was pickled the fresh water valve was probably closed to prevent any pickling fluid from traveling backwards or to prevent the pickling fluid from being fresh water flushed. Open both the raw water access valves and...

    Changing to LiFePo Batteries

I wish I could help you with this. I simply am not up to speed on LFP starting batteries. My question for you would be what are the issues with mixing LFP starting with LFP house. I realize that you can have the same dual purpose LFP in both but not sure of the issues charging both at mixed...

    Star link

I can’t speak for YoutubeTv but Netflix and YouTube work just fine in Canada. Some programming might be restricted but you probably won’t notice. I don’t have any experience with starlink mini. I believe it could be the best answer for boats as it’s small, self contained and uses the least...

    Stabilizers: A Must for Passage-Making?

The difference between my fins being active and locked is so dramatic it is hard for me to believe they do much in the locked position. If they do provide stabilization while in the locked mode I can’t imagine how bad a non stabilized version of my boat would be.

Newer Furuno Chartplotter connection to Older Raymarine Autopilot

I use my autopilot in both modes. If I am crossing a large body of water with multiple cross currents I will use the track feature. The rest of the time I just leave the autopilot on heading hold and adjust manually. I find that the boat hunts much more in track mode than in heading hold.

    Cat 3116 sync problem.

The first video made me agree with Greg QS that it was a fuel filter issue. The second video suggest that you have a tach pickup connection issue. I would inspect both.

    Cat 3116 sync problem.

Are you gas or diesel? Sorry, forgot this is a Cat boat. One way of diagnosing this would be to get a photo tack from Amazon. This would allow you to determine if your tachometers are reading accurately. The odd part here is that you feel the sound changed but the RPM did not. I am at a...

    Adding Ballast

Unless you do long transits were fuel is an issue, I would balance the boat with fuel tanks. I would only add weight as a last resort.

How well do you sleep on a newly spliced snubber?

If you want to test it, tie it to the dock and put the boat in gear. If it holds you can sleep like a baby that night.

    Lithium house bank project

When I converted to LFP i was able to use my existing Inverter/charger as it could be custom programmed. I wouldn’t be surprised if your xantrex is the same. The only other changes I needed to make was moving the alternators from the house bank to the start bank and replacing my smart ACR with...
