Well that is interesting. I do appreciate your efforts and time. I am now eager to go to the lake to see if I have the "Hook&Moor" or the "Robship" Then I will try the different extensions....but still keeping a rope on it! Thanks again.

Robship Hook & Moor Boat Hook no float

Recently purchased the Robship Hook and Moor Boat Hook and I like the product. It is really cool and works great but NO FLOAT. In the advertising it states that it Floats, but mine does not. Fortunately I tired a line to it to test it and she just kept going down, down, down. Maybe mine...

How often to start diesel engine

I have a 1985 35' CHB with two 100 hp Yanmar engines. I am on a large lake in Texas and do not take boat out much in winter. We do go to the boat and just enjoy it in the slip. I am wondering if I should start the engines from time to time while out there. Thanks for your input.

    Best (or favorite) Inflatable PFD

Best PFD Got my girlfriend the purple one from West Marine. You can disable to auto inflate to make them suitable for kayak and/or swimming and then just manually inflate if needed. Very comfortable and she liked the color. We both wear PFD all the time when out.

    Trim Tabs on Trawler

I recently purchased a 1985 35' CHB and it has trim tabs. I am thinking the next time I have her pulled, I will take the trim tabs off. Anyone see any reason to leave them on. One has already fallen off before I bought. One thing I do know, tabs or not, she is not going to ever plane...

30 amp vs 50 amp Shorepower

I recently purchased a 1985 37' CHB with 50 amp shore power. At my slip in Texas I will have 50amp, I get that. What if I want to truck to Florida and do the ICW. Will there be 50 amp at most marinas and/or what do I do if there is not 50 amp? Which is better and/or is there a preference? I...

    Newbie question buying used boat

Thank you so much for the reply. It has two 100 hp Yanmar 4PHM-TE which mean nothing to me. I'm coming from a Pearson 34 sailboat with 25 hp. Walked around decks and they seem solid. Will definitely get a surveyor. Anything else I need to be looking for? I notice you have a Mainship. Are...

    CHB Questions

I am about to trade my sailboat for a 1985 35' CHB Trawler. She has twin Yanmars and will initially be sailed in a large lake in Texas while I get her ready for Florida and/or the Loop. I need some experienced input. I am experienced in boating but primarily with sailboats with small inboard...

    Mail/permanent address question

What do you use for address if living aboard? Here is my situation: sold the house, have a six months leased apartment with the goal of being on a boat by this fall. Plan to tour Florida, ICW and maybe do the Loop. So what do I do for a mailing address? I talked with one of the post offices...

    Buying a boat

Thanks everyone. I sincerly appreciate your comments and advise. You have helped reaffirm what I was beginning to think and now definitely plan to follow the buyers broker path. Of course now the next question is, does anyone have any good suggestions for a 'good' broker. I probably need one...

Thanks for the reply but we are going to need some of the experienced guys/gals to reply. I have been reading nearly every thread here and went to the Trawler Fest. Lotsa of good experience out there. Everyone is very helpful. I am ready to buy but am trying to do it on my own and/or get a...

    Buying a boat

Is it wise to use a buyers broker when buying my first trawler? What would be the pros and cons of doing the search myself? I am an experienced sailor but do not have much experience with all the systems on a trawler. James
