For Sale: Peplink UBR LTE cellular modem with Poynting antenna/enclosure $599

This is a Peplink UBR modem mounted inside a Pointing ENTP-2 antenna / enclosure. With the modem mounted internally, the only wiring required is a 12VDC power supply. I bought last year and used one season - I've moved to a different configuration so no longer need. Will consider selling the...

    Both Tachs stopped Working

Do you have solar by chance? In my case, once the batteries were full the solar would push the house bank voltage high enough that the alternators stopped charging the batteries and my tachs would cut off. Solution is to install a shutoff switch for the solar, or do what CatalinaJack...

Force 10 4 burner LPG range ignitor battery replacement

OK figured this out - posting for the record: Closer inspection revealed that the entire stove could be lifted up within its frame (no screws to be removed) about 1", and then pivoted out so that the underside where the ignitor battery is housed was exposed. Battery was swapped out, terminals...

    Interesting boats

Owner Comments: "A very rare feeling when you are on board, you feel an absolute secure and love with her after 50 NM of Navigation. She becomes your body, embracing your soul, needs attention like a teenage love. When you are at helm you become her." That's quite a vessel, florid prose aside...

    1980s trawlers

We have a 1979 CHB 41 trawler with teak decks. There's water damage and plywood veneer delamination under the forward salon windows, flybridge teak is in good shape but with tea stains down the side of the boat I know the teak ply core is wet. I recently got a quote from an Ensenada yard to...

    Trawler Suggestions wanted!

Yeah they are absolute dream boats for sure... hard to find at that price point too. Maybe a bit precious for full time cruising? I appreciate the comments that the boat is a relatively low priority in the scheme of things. It is more fun to discuss though than personal finance, especially...

Force 10 4 burner LPG range ignitor battery replacement

We have a very nice, pretty new Force 10 range; today I noticed the ignitor is not sparking. Some searching led me to find the battery compartment, way in the back under the oven. I can't figure out an easy way to get to it - wondering if anyone has done this before. Seems like I may need...

    Trawler Suggestions wanted!

There's so little on the market right now that if I were in your situation I'd just be looking at the local inventory and talking about specific boats rather than desired make/model. The single/twin thing has been beaten to death - either is fine, I don't think you should eliminate a boat...

    Ford Lehman Biodiesel

Hyperion, As an environmentalist in the Renewable Energy business I share your view on biodiesel as I've written before - not a good solution. While I'm not an expert on supply chain stuff, there's certainly reason for concern, BUT... if you're concerned about cobalt, I recommend you source...

Noisy Cabin ? 88dba at idle

This is great - thanks SeaDuty for posting your experience & measurements. This is one of those projects that's on the list but hasn't made it to the top yet. It'd be interesting to see a frequency spectrum before & after as well. I'd suspect the SoundDown knocks off the mid to high...

Alarm Buzzer Not Working on Lehman 130

I'm too lazy to look closely at your wiring, but I suspect that the only reason it makes sense to have a relay in the alarm circuit is that the relay may be energized by a signal from your alternator that the engine is running. This prevents the alarm from sounding when you turn the key to...

    propane tank re-fill

The standard 5lb steel tanks can be swapped out easily at a million different locations. Our old sailboat had a bespoke 3lb aluminum tank which was a huge PITA (finding a refill spot, some places need to see that the tank's been certified within X years, etc. etc.). If you have the space just...

    Grand Banks 52 Alaskan

Lovely - thanks! Yeah I'd gladly yield some space from our massive master stateroom for another cabin. I do find the tub (more of a sit-down affair in our case) pretty useful for bathing underway or at a particularly roll-y anchorage.

    Grand Banks 52 Alaskan

I am jealous of the layout - would love to see a diagram if possible! We have a 41' CHB with 3 staterooms & would like to upgrade to a vessel with 4 (3 kids are getting too big, frequent guests). There are almost no motor yachts available with 4+ staterooms under 55' or so. Even under 65'...

Why Move from Sailboat to Trawler?

Wow Don - you got a lot of good advice on this thread, not sure why it's irritated you so much. Like anything on the internet, it's worth the price you paid for it & you can take it or leave it - I don't think anyone on the thread will be upset one way or another. Just talkin' 'bout boats...

Alarm Buzzer Not Working on Lehman 130

My buzzer was a golden colored box around 2”x1”x1” located under my helm station at floor level. But yours could be anywhere! :)

Alarm Buzzer Not Working on Lehman 130

Surprised there's a relay in the circuit - mine just runs right to the buzzer and then to 12V. With no oil pressure, the 12V runs through the buzzer, then to the sender (which is normally closed) and to ground, completing the circuit and sounding the alarm. Best to start with the oil...

    L.l.c.?

Another advantage I've heard about with an LLC is that your slip/moorage can stay with the boat upon transfer. This often happens anyway, but the marina has to approve the new owner. If the moorage contract is with the LLC, in theory a new owner of the LLC won't need to re-apply for the slip...

Why Move from Sailboat to Trawler?

Yeah there are no perfect solutions, otherwise what would be the point of this forum? :) With 3 kids and frequent guests, four cabins would be a huge benefit. Five would be even better. Very hard to find in a trawler despite the copious space. Seems like 70-80% of what's on the market is...

Why Move from Sailboat to Trawler?

Thanks for sharing... yeah a sailing cat seems pretty ideal, particularly if you can swing something in the 50' range. Cat comfort seems to scale up exponentially due to the much greater beam - both room and motion get way better going from 40 to 45, then to 50'. Problem is that cost scales...

Why Move from Sailboat to Trawler?

We went from a 41' cruiser-racer (First 405) to a 41' CHB trawler. Growing family didn't like the daysailing but loved spending the summer in the channel islands on our floating home. Absolutely no comparison in comfort both at sea and at anchor, living space, protection from the elements...

    120 Lehman lift pump failure

On the Lehman as I recall you just change the primaries, and vent at the filter housing as the fuel pump runs. I don't think you'll need to bleed at the injector pump or injectors, but if you do, you just do them one at a time, I don't think the order matters.
