    Groco Duplex Strainer

Thanks for all the replies and pointing me into the correct direction. Until now I was unaware that duplex strainers won’t work well in a pressurised system. Probably best will be to install a new Y strainer instead of the installed duplex strainer. Added to my never ending ‘to do list’

    Groco Duplex Strainer

Thank you. I already feared I’m the only one with that problem. Yes, a duplex strainer which does not seal the non working side is useless. Expensive bronze sculpture in the engine room

    Groco Duplex Strainer

There is resistance when turning the handle. But: the first time when I wanted to rotate the handle I t was very stiff. I suspect this was as the shipyard had delayed the whole boat by five years and thus the rubber seals were sticky

    Groco Duplex Strainer

Thank you for all the answers. Apologies: I had made a mistake: I didn’t meant oil leaks, it is cooling liquid which leaks. To explain: the boat has keel cooling and this particular shipyard is known to have rust in their system. Thus I asked for a duplex strainer installation to protect the...

    Groco Duplex Strainer

Dear Community, My boat is equipped with a Groco Duplex Strainer. Unfortunately not too much information about that solid piece around. Except: it should be possible to clean one side while the other side is in operation. Well, somehow that does not work on my unit. Whichever side I select to...

    Racor gauge education?

Question why suction gauges do not work I want to make clear: I do not think SBMAR sells junk. I bought and had installed them in first place and will keep the double filtration system. Yes, I can get the engines up and running by simply replacing the fuel filters with new units. The reason...

    Failure of fuel suction gauges?

The boat has two SBMAR double filtration systems with suction gauges for the engine fuel system. Appears both system (all four indicators) have failed: - System A shows high negative pressure despite system depressurized, aired, filters removed and valves wide open - System B shows no negative...

    Racor gauge education?

Failure of vacuum gauges? I have two SBMAR double filtration systems for the engine fuel system. Appears both system have failed: - System A shows high negative pressure despite system depressurized, aired, filters removed and valves wide open - System B shows no negative pressure in fuel...

Corrosion prevention in bilge under engine?

Dear community members, Currently I have a situation which will develop into a problem in the long run if not addressed. I had a diesel leak in the engine room. After treatment with bilge cleaner and cleanup I discovered that the paint in the bilge underneath the engine is not diesel resistant...

Flying Coney - 82ft sailing ship project based on historic trawler

She's a beautiful boat, indeed. Looks nice as a trawler with the current setup, but I also can imagine her as sailing ship. I am curious about your "blasting" experience of the interior of the boat as I am facing a similar problem: how to clean old paint off in a very confined area of the bilge.

    Sailor 6222 VHF, MMSI reset

Problem solved Thanks for all the advice I have received in forums, PMs and emails. Most helpful was the "service manual" that some fellow sailors placed online. As update, if anyone in near future faces the same problem: Firefox version 4.0.1 did the trick :thumb:

    Sailor 6222 VHF, MMSI reset

MMSI coded wrong Dear boating community, Some 'helping and curious hands' on board managed to punch a “8” into my band new Sailor 6222 before I had the time to enter the assigned MMSI. Current MMSI shows 800000000, which we all know is nonsense and renders the radio more or less useless. I'm...
