    Cement Ballast in keel?

Our IG has cement ballast. Over the years water managed to get into it and freezing each year caused some cracking of the ply and fiberglass over it. A couple of years ago I drilled a hole from the outside through the glass at the lowest aft point in the keel until I hit cement and then...

    Tv antenna choice?

Have the same and mounted the same way. Can receive only 2 channels (with their subchannels) on our home mooring, although we can lose them as the boat swings. Luckily, one of those channels is PBS, about the only one worth watching IMHO. Don't know if a better antenna would be any improvement...

    TF Southeast Florida Gathering?

When is this supposed to take place? Will be in western FL (Longboat Key) Jan & Feb. If it's during that time, and if Don supplies the JD, I will make every attempt to make it, even if I have to crawl cross country through alligator infested swamps.

    Engine room fire extinguisher

Installed a Fireboy MA2 automatic/manual system in the engine room last year. Alarms at both upper and lower stations. Manual pull at lower station. Fireboy evidently uses HFC-227ea as a replacement for Halon. (MA2 Fire Extinguisher - Fireboy-Xintex), Which reminds me, I need to have an annual...

What do you do to keep in shape?

Crawling in, under, around, up and down, inside and outside our boats and our sports cars for inspection and maintenance, doing all the "honey do's" my wife has for me daily, maintaining our dirt home, it's systems and yard, playing with the dog and strenuously exercising my elbow at cocktail...

    Great Galley Gadgets

They (and their ilk) are what I would prefer. Quick, easy and no pots or dishes for the designated scullery person (me) to deal with. Unfortunately, my better half won't allow them in the larder. I get to buy and eat them only when I'm aboard by myself for dinner. She likes to cook full meals...

An excerpt from a Soundings article on the sinking of the original Zopilote: "In 1994, after their circumnavigation and a season of shooting 'The Commish', Kessler was cruising to Alaska’s Prince William Sound on Zopilote and it hit an uncharted seamount at Dixon Entrance, 70 miles west of...

    Dream Boats

I've always been attracted to Bruce Kessler's "Spirit of Zopilote". We see her often in Buck's Harbor. Appears to be a go anywhere, no nonsense, beauty in function, yet comfortable boat. Her she is behind my beer at the Buck's Harbor Yacht Club floats a couple of years ago. A friend has a...
