New Cummins Genset chewing through impellers

Sherwood usually has their impeller market locked up. Unless you went to a Globe design.

Any way to tell between red diesel and ATF in the bilge?

What color is your coolant? It would have it's own stench and taste also.

    Generator Frequency

Before anything. How are you sure it's making 50 htz? How are you sure it's turning 1500RPM? Thinking that lil giffy analog meter on the console is accurate? Have you the correct strobe tach, palm tach, freq meter on hand?

    Who had right of way?

Kinda of Gross tonnage wins??? It is a safer way of using the water ways. If you come home in one piece, it could be an un-wriiten good rule of life.

    Who had right of way?

Good point. I was trying to arouse this in thread; http://www.trawlerforum.com/forums/s3/meanwhile-chesapeake-40061-3.html#post692563 A few may of tired of my point. Overall; Snail Boters think they have so many rite of ways and it's just is not so.

    Who had right of way?

A recreational fishing boat has NO rites of way..... A commercial fishing boat showing a basket or proper lights is RAM.

    Snail Boter.

    Who had right of way?

Further down the rule book, A snailing craft shall not cross or enter a channel and obstruct vessels already navigating in the channel, shall not impede NUC, RAM, CBD nor anybody claiming the center of the channel by restrictions in her draft (Inland version of CBD). Real fishing boats, with...

    And meanwhile in the Chesapeake...

I remember back to open class discussions long ago. NavRule #3 quotes a smokey line. Legal interpretation can and does ad odors to the smoke quickly. These ideals are what I have always leaned to; Sailboats are not just sail boats. Quickly I found the below. No case history though. I...

    And meanwhile in the Chesapeake...

I have never witnessed an under power day shape, I have witnessed rags up and exhaust spewing. I have argued this before, If it's running, power is available, it's a power boat. Back to the OP, lack of look out and the lack of maneuvering to avoid a collision has been proven both boats faults...

    And meanwhile in the Chesapeake...

Where did you did that SH** (stuff) from? If machinery is running and available, in use or not, then she is under power.

    Generator fuel problem

How low are your fuel tanks. Gen sets usually have their own pick up tubes mounted higher than the engine pick ups.

New Cummins Genset chewing through impellers

Globe impellers may have a place in real world use,, somewhere. Have not found it yet. I would not want to switch to them now if there is a real issue and just want the issue covered up.

New Cummins Genset chewing through impellers

If there is no wear on the blade edges, an askew cam would not be an issue.

New Cummins Genset chewing through impellers

-- No edge wear just cracks in the base of the vanes. Floating? can you explain this? Thanks. The lack of edge wear may prove the blades are not rubbing on the Pump housing and floating. When impellers are restricted while flowing water, the vains will move faster than the water flows, The...

New Cummins Genset chewing through impellers

    1) How fine is the mesh in the strainer? 2) How fine is the outside strainer? 3) How hard does the exhaust system work to expel water? Lets pull the impeller early one time and look for a wear pattern on the vains. If no edge wear and a lot of cracks, there is a restriction some where and...

    Fire extinguisher

How many fuel fires, electrical fires, fiberglass or dense wood fires do you try to control at home?? On a boat, you can not just walk away. As on post #19 above, your fighting for your life. When you win, it has to be cleaned up. Not a house use douse either. Guys, I'm not talking high...

    Fire extinguisher

Errr, on small personal craft. CO2 is still the main stay on large surface craft (fixed and portable) for a good reason;; It works well. Halon or later EPA Halon like gases are #2. Dry chemical is cheap and ideal for small craft. Oh, when your the US Navy and all else has failed, Go-zillion...

    Fire extinguisher

Have you ever cleaned up a dry chemical discharged in confined spaces? It usually requires a remote breather for the person cleaning, and a haz-mat vacuum. Asbestos has nothing on the ingredients in a dry chemical fire extinguisher.
