It's getting new prop shafts and rudders. That corrosion is at the packing gland.

I don't know because I didn't measure it but here's a good pic of it.

I agree. I'm wondering if you have the same deep keel. I think they came from the same molds.

    Power refit plan (12v)

I agree. My boat has a master on the thruster. It will give you some added protection.

I'm wondering if your hull looks the same. I think they came out of the same mold but not sure. Post pics of your haul out.

That's awesome you have all the original paperwork. Makes things easy and knowledge is power. I'm still going through all the North Star's manuals and paper work. We had it hauled out on Tuesday. The survey went well. The only majors are the Rudders will need to be pulled and new bearings and...

    Pulled the trigger

Well we finally pulled the trigger and we're in the process of purchasing a 42' CHB Royal Star. It's in the yard right now getting a few things fixed and a new coat of bottom paint. It feels good to be a boat owner again.

    Ford Lehman vs Cat 3208

Just quoting what I was told. My last boat had 3208s and they are great engines. In 9 years they didn't have a hiccup but did have to have the injector pumps rebuilt. Airstream yes they are sleeved engines. My new to me boat has the Lehman 275SPs so I guess we'll see how it goes.

    Jefferson 53 LRC?

Welcome abroad. What engines does it have in it?

    What about a gas trawler?

My last gas Motorhome had the 8.1 engine that GM for some stupid reason discontinued. That engine, stock, is a beast. I loved it. I could run off and leave my friends that had the 454s and V10s. It was also, for a big block, not bad on gas milege. If I was repowering a gas boat they would be my...

    What about a gas trawler?

Nice boat. Nothing wrong with gassers if you're not going very far. I love the Californians. I owned a 42 LRC for 9 years with 3208As. Good solid boats. I'd look hard at that boat too.

    Ford Lehman vs Cat 3208

I co-owned a 1979 Californian 42 LRC for 10 years. Great engines. The only problem we had was the injector pumps had to be rebuilt. Not cheap BTW. Cat parts are not cheap but they're solid engines. My ex-partner still owns the boat and they're still running great I was told by several mechanics...

    KVH3 upgrade for Direct TV

I've been hearing rumors that DTV was going to shut down SD channels when their Sat ran out of fuel. Sounds like that's what has happened.

    New to the Californian

When I had my Californian 42 LRC I had the same problem with my sliding doors. I went to a plastics shop and had 1/8" thick teflon strips cut the width of the track. That worked great. But my sliders were smaller than yours so I'm not sure that will work for you but it's cheap and worth a try. I...

    Jefferson 42

Congrats on the new purchase. I looked at it online when it was listed. Nice boat. I'm in the process of buying an 1987 CHB Royal Star 42 from a friend. It's almost the same layout and power specs. Your survey looks good with nothing major to report. I sure you'll have lots of things the you...

    Bid On Boat

Nice boat. I like the full head in the FWD stateroom. That is hard to find in any of the sundeck boats. Most have a wet head which IMHO is worthless. The ER needs some TLC, especially the batteries but not a deal breaker. I'm biding on an 87 CHB Ponderosa 42' next week that a friend has...

Users' Opinions On Various Makes of Engines Needed

Hino inline 6 cylinder diesel engines are made by Toyota Heavy industries LTD. They also manufacture Hino medium duty trucks. Not bad engines. I've had 2 friends that owned Bayliner 3870s with those engines and had very little trouble with them. They are naturally asperated engines.

1969 Chris Craft Roamer on Ebay

Probably have to put $20k into it to make it liveable and sea worthy. Too much work for me and too old.

    Friends say I'm an idiot

There's nothing wrong with Chula Vista Marina. Yes it takes a while to get to the mouth of the bay but the people are great. I had a 42' Californian there for 5 years and love the place. I still hang out with friends there. You'll love that Californian. My only issue was the wood maintenance. If...

    Why I love Blackstone Labs

Yes. I've been doing samples on my 3208 CATs and my motorhomes over the years. Their information has been invaluable. Great lab with great people. Highly recommend them.
