    Anchor/cockpit washdown

Thanks, great point. I had found a switch mounted on a plate with a fuse holder and on/off light. I was thinking of putting in an in-line fuse which came with the pump as well.

    Anchor/cockpit washdown

My tug does not have a wash down of any sort. I have two through-hulls with sea Vick’s: engine raw water, black water discharge. Since I MAY use this seawater to wash not only the deck and anchor but perhaps my body, dishes and clothes I don’t think tying into the discharge line a good option...

    Is belt cover necessary

Awesome engine room! Could not understand how to download pics but will try agin later.

    Is belt cover necessary

That was definitely a close call. Glad he is ok. Mine is a single engine in an extremely small place an it would really be tough to be driving the boat and working on the engine at the same time. It would be difficult because I do all the driving and maintenance. Also there would be a big hole...

    Is belt cover necessary

I have a Cummins 6bt5.9-m. The front cover is only about 5” from the bulkhead when installed. It is almost impossible to inspect the belt, belt tracking or leaks with the cover in place. Of course it has to be removed for any work in that area. Of course there is the safety aspect of not...

    Tug dreaming

Welcome aboard. Sorry for all the worthless responses. I have a 2002 32’ Nordic Tug. It was the first model to have the built-in swim step but before a few minor v-berth mods. I think it was later called a 32+2 then eventually a 34. Enough about that. I love the tug but they, I should say mine...

    Nordic Tug eng room carpet

    Good point!

    Salon table top refinishing

I suggest Formica as well but would go with some sort of pattern. Wear and tear is not nearly as noticeable.

    Nordic Tug eng room carpet

The bump hat I have is made by ergodyne. Got it on Amazon. It is a knit hat with a thin flexible insert. The hat fits close to the head therefore it does not limit my access to tight quarters. A little warm in hot weather but sure saves the head.

    Nordic Tug eng room carpet

Thanks for the quick responses. I will lay soft removable grating tiles to keep the feet and tools dry when there is a spill. Knee pads and a bump hat is standard confined space equipment for my bald head and wore out knees. Thanks again.

    Nordic Tug eng room carpet

My 2002 32’ Nordic tug has carpet on both sides of the engine. Nice when dry but always damp from maintaining raw water and coolant systems. It has also been damaged by battery acid. Being damp a significant amount of the time makes the engine room a corrosive and potentially mold laden chamber...

    So true!!

    Necessary tools

I searched beforehand but may look again. Sorry I bothered. I will try the Nordic forum or just wing it. Thanks again Over and out

    Necessary tools

Understood, and to that point we will be traveling accompanied by another boat for most of the isolated excursions. Our dinghy also has a 15hp Honda and 12 gal fuel in which we can carry our handheld radio, PLB and In-Reach.

    Necessary tools

About to start up the inside passage next spring from Washington to Whittier, AK in my 32’ Nordic Tug. This will be a long trip since we plan to explore the many side trips the route has to offer. The amount of tools I have accumulated is probably ridiculous and is taking up way too much space...

    Fleet guard refractometer

Thank you for the quick response. I just wanted to be certain that there is a substantial difference in quality to justify the cost and not merely a $21 refractometer marked up to $200 just because Cummins recommended it. I will buy both and make a comparison myself. Thanks again

    Fleet guard refractometer

I have a Cummins 6BT5.9. I bought 2002 32/34' Nordic Tug, with a Cummins 6BT5.9. Reading the manual they recommend using a Fleetguard refractometer, P/N CC-2800, to check the antifreeze concentration. Question: This particular refractometer costs over $200 yet refractometers advertised on...

    Sliding Dinghy Davit??

I own a 38' slip with a very strict 2' overhang limit. I am looking at a 2008 Mainship 34. LOA appears to be 40' pulpit to swim step). It has Olsson Transom electric stainless steel davits which can be retracted a bit to stay within the 40' limit but only without the dinghy. I love the davits...

    canopy strut corrosion soln

I tried to upload this picture of a Mainship rear post design I think would be almost maintenance free.

    canopy strut corrosion soln

I think I will replace it with a simple SS post like those on Mainship trawlers.

    canopy strut corrosion soln

Not sure if water is getting in or just never has a chance to dry out. In Whittier we get about 133 rainy days producing about 185 inches per year. It only gets above 60° F a month or two and then just barely above. Usually in the 40° F range so when it is not raining it is cloudy and doesn't...

    canopy strut corrosion soln

I have an Albin 36 Express Trawler which has considerable corrosion of the two main rear canopy supports. They are powder coated aluminum. What is the best way to fix this professionally. I was thinking about replacing with SS which would be handy for affixing things like cranes, outboards...
