    First liveaboard

It's a diesel fired furnace. 5kw it the measure of the heat output of the burning fuel. Sorry, I don't know what that relates to as equivalent to anything else. The two 1inch pipes, 1 for combustion air in, 1 for exhaust. Uses electricity for the fan, not much more.

    First Foray into Marine Radar

To learn how to use it, as already stated on here, Kevin Monahans "Radar Book". He is from the Victoria, or South Island area. The book is very good, easy to understand and read. It is the book the Canadian Power Squadron has used to produce the new RADAR course.

    App for tides?

I really liked Ayetides. Foolish me, I switched to an Android phone and Ayetides isn't available. :( Ayetide users, you DO know that if you turn your device 90 degrees that the format changes from text to graphical. I really liked that feature. Not available on the apps I've used since I got...

    Steering Bracket questioon

Clean it and paint it. Nobody going to say anything about the empty bonding connection?

Need info on 1974 26' North Sea built by Beaver Glass Hulls

Looks a lot like a Yar 26 except for the aft cabin. Maple Bay marina has their new 50t travel lift assembled. Looks ready to go. (12 Sept 2020)

    Best books to self educate

Hm? Yachting etiquette. That's where you are supposed to fire a shot, cannon or any other firearm, when you come into a harbour or anchorage and the leading rank vessel, military or Power Squadron, is supposed to fire a return volley in recognition. I have a doubt that would go over well these...

I'm south, at Maple Bay. Is this where Seabreeze was? I don't recall her by name but it I saw her... GS

Travels of "Emma B" (JD powered Helmsman)

Anchorages? We have enjoyed the very skinny water between Musgrave Island and Saltspring. Otter, Troll hull #2, had no trouble but check that tide table. Low water is about equal to the Troll"s draught. Current changes 180 degrees. Nice trails on shore in the park. Newcastle Island at Nanaimo...

    Coaster 23 by Lovett/Chudley

Nomad Willy said he would love to have one to convert to an outboard. I recently saw one that had that done. " No regrets." Was the comment.

Ruth Eva, pictured on post #54 is coming under the care of a new owner. I am in the process of buying her, now named Orca. Three'ish years ago a friend bought her off John and Marilyn in Comox (posters of post #54), now I'm taking over as her caretaker. She has been in Maple Bay and will stay in...

    Question For You Bourbon Drinkers

Years ago I was in a foreign country (US of A) and wandered into a southern tavern. I asked for a Rye and the bar tender said "A what?". I repeated myself and he explained to me that they are a respectable establishment and don't serve that low grade booze. I was staggered and flustered. He...

Edited. Question? When and why would they be in Canadian waters? USA all the way.

    Another Zincs type anode question

I bet the torque values seem high because they are inch pounds, not foot pounds. I doubt they are over 10 foot pounds.

    Tamd 40 b

Typically the coolant overflow tank connects to a connection right at the coolant filler cap (radiator cap). The cap has a double seal. At the pressure rating of the cap, say 7 psi, coolant pressure leaks past the first seal and runs by gravity into the overflow tank. When the engine cools and...

A question for couples who cruise.

I think it would be just weird to not be there together. There could be times like when guests are aboard or a special task needs to be done that the navigator might be elsewhere.

    Re-wiring 8D batteries

To start an automotive diesel engine takes between 500 to 1000 amps. I think I know why your 60 fuse blew.

Anyone cruising in BC now ?

Wow! Guy very nicely asks a simple question and you bunch rip him a "new one". Unfounded personal attack to say the least. Surprised you didn't accuse him avoiding child support at the same time. Welcome to Canada and I sincerely hope you find pleasure in your limited cruising opportunities...

Sugestions-opinions about getting into the boat hobbie

No, it isn't too much. Yes, it is starting at the top for most boaters but starting from the bottom of the scale for others. It depends on what you can afford. My opinion is to not go much bigger than that size in these waters so you can fit into the desirable anchorages, find transient warfage...

Help with mooring pendant and swivel

I don't know how the rope would unwind. Where is the twist coming from? Tidal flow turning the boat counter clockwise all the time? Also, nylon rope is not know to be much effected by UV from sunlight. Probably good to not have the swivel. The one you chose was WAY to large in my opinion. The...

Tell us something about you that sounds FAKE

At a local golf course I was paired up with Will Miller. I don't know who he is or what he does so I asked what he's been doing. He tells me he's been on a tour, Australia and New Zealand and area. I figured I hadn't been straightforward enough and figured he'd been on vacation. So I asked him a...
