Transient Temp Storage options and boat selection

Need advice on temp transient storage. Will be exploring East Coast and want to fly in for about a week a month and explore an area then move on but need to come back home for work.

Looking at purchasing a trawler soon and looking at 25-ish outboard pilothouses and 28-31 ft downeast style trawlers (flybridge maybe).

The outboards would be much easier for dry storage options I assume but is the cost to haul out and in a couple times a month going to offset that, and bunk/craddle setup fees? I could dive the bottom once a month but what about long term costs associate with a boat in water full time?

What is everyone's experience on availabilty and costs? Not having a boat in the water would reduce zincs, bottom work, etc. But that would mean a 25 footer vs a 28 or 31... Would mostly be solo but having a friend or my kid occassionally so a 25 tug/trawler style pilothouse would work.

You can arrange for rack storage on the Chesapeake. Lots to explore and the boat will be out of the water when you're not using it.

Lots of less expensive marinas in North Carolina's Pamlico, Pungo and Neuse River areas, slips and ground level. Belhaven has a few, Minnesott Beach area, and many more. New Dry Storage rack marina across the river from Washington on the Tar/Pamlico River. Albemarle Sound River systems has some, too. Great cruising waters, too, from VA to Morehead City. "Nothing could be finer....."

For that mission I'd be looking at something like a Ranger tug that could be trailered. Even if you are flying in, you can rent a truck to put it in the water. Storage is in any RV storage lot, there are millions of them, generally significantly cheaper than any marina or marine dry storage lot. Also allows repositioning via the highway when convenient.

I'm with DDW, on the assumption that you want to move around. If you're happy with keeping the boat based in the same place long-term storage will be cheaper and more convenient. Finding different places to dock the boat for 3 week stretches as you move around can get pricey and might not be easy in some areas.

The trailer scheme also allows you to take a few months off without paying hefty bills.
