My slip is near a marine construction yard that produces a lot of dust and grime, including what seems to be drops of airborne tar or coke that leave spots on my cream colored gel coat that I am unable to get out with ordinary cleaners and elbow grease. I’m on a long waiting list for a slip in a cleaner location and am planning to spring for the ceramic coating in the spring, but in the meantime I’d appreciate any advice on tar/stain removers that might do a better job on these spots.

A little diesel on a rag should take that tar off fast.

If dawn doesn’t work, my next step is oil eater. If that’s still not getting it, I go to ppg dx330 wax and grease remover. Of course, this takes all the wax too, so new wax is necessary.

I have used mineral spirits on vehicles with good results. Test an area of fiberglass to ensure no unintended consequences.

Extreme Simple Green or POR15 degreaser are my go tos for oily residue removal.
