Greetings!

This boat seems to check a lot of boxes. Traditional trawler styling, large bridge, two staterooms, gally up, etc. Run at 8kts and enjoy fuel efficiency when you have time to spare, or when you need to get there, run at 18kts.

How is engine access with a pair of Cat 3116's?

Thanks!

I don't know a whole lot about them, but there's one that stores for the winters at our marina. The guy has had it for years and loves the boat. Sabre was always known for good build quality. And I like the look and layout from what I've seen of it.

As far as the ability to get up and run, it's absolutely a planing hull (based on looking at it out of the water), so as long as it's powered to cruise at 18 kts without beating on the engines, it should do it happily. An efficient slow cruise will be more like 6.5 - 7 kts though. 8 will be starting to plow. It just doesn't have the waterline length to make 8 kts a good speed.

This boat was on our short list but there were very few for sale when we were looking. Similar boat to the Albin Tournament Express 35 in terms of layout, but with superior build quality. They made two versions with and without an extended top over the cockpit. I'm going to guess engine access is pretty tight with twin Cats, I think most have Yanmar or Cummins though. The hull design will be a compromise with not particularly great economy at a slow cruise of 7 knots ~2.5mpg and probably sub 1mpg at cruise of 18-20.

Very nice boat, I'm sure we would have been happy with it.
