I have heard pros and cons about entering Pamlico Sound via Oregon Inlet.* Any members have recent experience to contribute?

I drove over it a couple of times in the last month and there was always a dredge working. The channel seemed well marked and there was a lot of boat traffic. This is the outlet that the Carolina Custom sportfisherman use that keep their Buddy Davis' and Craig Blackwells the Manteo and Wanchese areas. I foul weather it can be very nasty. I didn't see any jetties or breakwaters.
