Hello. I am following the 101 recommendation to introduce myself a little as a new member.
My wife and I are in our late 50’s and we like boating/exploring Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf. Our current boat is a “converted” version of a 1980’s Silverton 31. Not a trawler originally, but we treat it as such now because the remodelled interior is open-plan, the cockpit is covered in with canvas on a stainless steel frame, and the engines were downgraded to 2 x Volvo 165hp. The hull likes going 7.5 - 8 knots and (when I’m feeling rich) we can do 14 - 15 knots just planing.
I have joined the forum to read and learn more about diesel engines and other systems, and read about some newer models of trawler vessels. Our boat needs lots of little osmosis repairs at each haul-out so a time will eventually come when we seek something else.
